- Graduate of a Dental Assisting program, or foreign‑trained dentist with at least a year of experience as a dental assistant, or a Dental Assistant with no less than 500 hours of patient‑care time in the past 12 months and verifiable on‑the‑job training.
- Customer service experience with the general public (1 year).
- Experience in a multi‑provider dental practice.
- CDT‑5 coding experience.
- Familiarity with electronic health records and practice management systems.
- Experience working with low‑income, multi‑ethnic populations.
- Dental Assistant registration in the State of Washington.
- Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR/AED); must be obtained on the first day of hire.
- Verified immunity to measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), and varicella; demonstrated via vaccination records or titer results.
- Dental Assistant certification by the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) – preferred.
- Greet patients, interpreters, and visitors promptly, courteously, and accurately, both in person and by phone.
- Assist patients with forms, verify contents, provide pre‑op and post‑op instructions, and handle referrals and pre‑authorizations.
- Coordinate interpretive services with reception staff.
- Support dentists in diagnosing dental problems and delivering oral health education.
- Submit accurate fee slips to the receptionist after each encounter.
- Monitor schedules, track patient arrivals, and maintain smooth patient flow throughout the clinic.
- Perform all dental treatment procedures allowed by Washington State law, including radiographic surveys, chairside assistance, and instrument exchange.
- Open and close operatories, maintaining stock, cleanliness, sterilization, and safety.
- Keep current knowledge of dental materials, procedures, hygiene protocols, and sterilization practices.
- Adhere to inventory management and purchasing protocols.
- Enforce institutional infection control plans.
- Maintain attendance standards for daily operations and patient continuity.
- Perform receptionist duties as needed and support other departments upon request.
