This is a 4.0 hour per day, 180 days per year, Para educator/Library Para educator position with benefits at Serene Lake Elementary School. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026.
Hours for this position are 8:30 a.m.
- 12:30 p.m. and include 1.0 hour of crossing/supervision duties.
The successful candidate will work directly with the librarian in support of the library including supervision before school. Tasks may include shelving, check‑in/out of materials, bagging and delivering books on campus, etc. Use of technology will be expected.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior library experience preferred, and/or experience working in an elementary school setting.

Job Summary:
This position performs a wide variety of tasks under the direction of the principal and librarian to facilitate the efficient operation of the school library. Responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the delivery of instructional and non‑instructional activities for students individually or in groups, student supervision, maintaining the physical appearance of the library and display areas, maintaining books and other library materials, and operating a variety of library equipment to provide information and support for staff and students.
Performance Responsibilities and
Essential Functions:
- Facilitate the operation of the school library in an independent capacity while coordinating with a certificated librarian; assist students in use of equipment and resources; maintain security of materials and equipment; maintain the physical appearance of library and display areas.
- Operate a variety of office equipment used for library instruction to prepare, duplicate, collate and distribute materials for students and staff.
- Provide clerical support related to maintaining records, files, lists, catalogs; shelve books and complete backups; notify students/teachers/parents of late books and/or fines and follow through on a regular basis for returned books and/or replacement payments.
- Order materials in consultation with the principal and librarian for student and teacher library use.
- Locate materials to support student and teacher use, activities and special projects in consultation with the principal and librarian.
- Assist students individually with locating materials and utilizing other library resources and services.
- Supervise and monitor students in library, model appropriate behavior, and establish behavioral rules to promote and maintain appropriate student behavior.
- Assist in promoting effective communication with students, staff and parents.
- Respect confidentiality of information.
- Participate in meetings and training to share information, improve skills and knowledge, implement school initiatives and address student needs.
- Comply with District Policies.
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
- Perform such other related job duties as assigned by the principal(s).

Minimum Qualifications
Skills, knowledge, and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job.
- Apply knowledge of technology to media centers, i.e., computer skills, word processing, circulation software, online database and Internet searching.
- Knowledge and skill in library organization and procedures.
- Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning in the library.
- Operate a variety of computers, audio‑visual and other equipment related to the facilitation of library operations.
- Physically transport AV materials, equipment, and store print and AV curricular materials throughout the school facility.
- Use basic math and write routine documents using correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
- Follow and give written and verbal instructions.
- Work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
