Job Summary

This is a 6.5‑hour day, 180 days per year Para educator position with benefits at Picnic Point Elementary School. Hours are 8:35 a.m. – 3:35 p.m. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the teacher in the classroom with students that have challenging behaviors, primarily in a Structured program for students with Autism or related characteristics. Instruction is provided individually or in small groups (2–4 students) to target non‑academic skills and support overall learning.

Performance

Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Assist teachers with daily supervision of students to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under teacher direction, administer student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic data, update records, and assess progress.
  • Assist with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teachers and other staff.
  • Support the implementation of strategies to address diverse student needs and promote educational growth.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance, including data entry, correspondence, copying, filing, and material preparation.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support, and personal care for ill, medically fragile, or disabled students.
  • Give physical assistance for feeding, toileting, lifting, and positioning; support use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology.
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school, supervise at recess, cafeteria, library, and bus pickup/drop‑off.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly environment in shared spaces.
  • Participate in meetings and training to share information and improve professional skills.
  • Comply with District policies and maintain consistent presence at assigned work site.
  • Other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Basic Washington State Para qualifications and experience working with children.
  • Knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.
  • Desire and aptitude to work with students.
  • Positive and professional interaction with students, supervisors, and staff.
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Effective student behavior management skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines amid frequent interruptions.
  • Willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide physical, health, and safety care for students.
  • Ability to lift and relocate students safely, using adaptive equipment as required.
  • Computer application knowledge to support student learning.
  • Commitment to strengthening job‑related competencies.
Education and Certification
  • At least eighteen years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One of the following: associate degree or higher; 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher; completed a Washington State apprenticeship program; or passing score on one of the approved assessments (ETS Para Pro, Pearson’s Paraprofessional, The Master Teacher Inc. Para educator Online Training).
  • May be required to complete behavior‑modification or safe physical‑restraining training depending on assignment.

  • Frequent physical effort: 34% – 65%; continual effort: 66% – 100% of workload.
Position Type and Salary

Classified Regular – $30.17 to $40.20 hourly
