Job Summary

This is a 6.5 hours per day, 180 days per year Para educator (6.25 hours) position and Nutrition Service I (0.25 hours, 173-175 days per year) position with benefits at Picnic Point Elementary School. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026.

Hours for this position are 8:35 a.m.

- 3:35 p.m.

The successful candidate will serve in multiple support roles under the direction of the classroom teacher, working with students who exhibit challenging behaviors. Responsibilities in the Resource Room include supporting students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and delivering teacher‑designed instruction to individuals and small groups of students. Additional duties include general student supervision, crossing guard responsibilities, and assisting with food service operations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications: Bi-Lingual De-escalation strategies.

Minimum Qualifications: Basic WA State Para qualifications and experience working with children.

Rate of pay for positions:

Para educator (6.25 hour/day): $29.05 - $39.07/hour

Nutrition Service I (0.25 hours/day): $25.33 - $29.14/hour

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teacher’s direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use of specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids).
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well‑being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned work site and regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
