About the Position

1.0 FTE continuing contract position for a Library Information Specialist (LIS) at Edmonds‑Woodway High School beginning with the 2026‑27 school year.

Preference will be given to candidates that currently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement. SIOP training and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed SIOP and GLAD training previously. Training must be completed within the first two years of employment.

Responsibilities Instructor
  • Teach media literacy lessons so that students develop into effective consumers and producers of ideas and information.
  • Teach digital citizenship lessons and reinforce digital citizenship skills so that students become safe, responsible, and ethical users of digital media and tools.
  • Plan lessons aligned with AASL standards and/or CCSS/NGSS; ensure students demonstrate mastery.
  • Differentiated instruction and assessment to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Actively cultivate a culturally responsive teaching environment that is inviting, safe, inclusive, and collaborative.
  • Promote a vibrant and inclusive school‑wide reading culture, guiding students to read for understanding and pleasure.
Instructional Partner
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction, and assess student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Use and model (and coach other staff in using) district‑supported instructional technology and online resources to improve student engagement and independent learning.
  • Maintain familiarity with adopted curricula, scopes and sequences for various content areas, and pacing guides.
Library Collection Manager
  • Actively engage in regular collection management processes: annual goal‑setting and reflection, materials selection and processing, annual inventory, ongoing weeding, and end‑of‑year maintenance around missing or lost materials.
  • Manage any para educator and volunteer support, the library budget, as well as the physical and virtual spaces of the school library.
  • Create an inclusive collection that authentically represents and celebrates diverse backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences in accordance with ESD board policy.
  • Curate print and digital resources to support school curriculum and empower a culture of inquiry.
  • Develop and administer an inviting and effective physical and digital library environment that represents the demographics of the school and meets the needs of curriculum and instruction.
Leader
  • Cultivate community partnerships.
  • Lead staff/peer development related to information literacy, media literacy, digital citizenship, and instructional technology.
  • Work with district staff to communicate key messages and information related to libraries, reading advocacy, instructional technology and digital tools, and digital citizenship and media literacy.
  • Advocate for and ensure equitable access to resources, technology, and information services for the entire school.
  • Provide the leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and the school district, and is an integral component of the learning/instructional program.
Required Qualifications

Valid Washington State Teaching Certification with a Library Media endorsement (must have completed a school library endorsement program), OR Washington State Teaching Certification AND current enrollment in a school library endorsement program with ability to complete program within 1–2 years.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum 3 years of successful teaching experience.
