Para educator – Behavior Support Specialist

This is a 7.0 hour per day, 180 days per year position with benefits at Serene Lake Elementary School. Anticipated start date is September 1, 2026. Hours for this position are 8:30 a.m.

- 4:00 p.m.

This position works directly with students providing support solving problems, supporting behavior with systems, and collaborating with students, staff, and teachers. Candidate will need to track behavior and participate in Behavior Support Team meetings regarding data collected and monitoring student progress. Additionally, there may be some supervision duties which aid in the support of specific students.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in an elementary school. Experience working with students to support behavior and social emotional needs. Understanding of restorative practices. Strong skills collaborating and communicating with students, staff and parents. Ability to implement behavior plans and monitor progress. Collaborate with Behavior Support Team.

Minimum Qualifications: Basic WA State Para qualifications and experience working with children.

Rate of pay for positions:

Behavior Support Specialist (6.5 hours/day): $30.95 - $41.25/hour

Para educator (0.5 hours/day): $29.81 - $40.09/hour

Job Summary: Assist students who are exhibiting behavior and social emotional actions that are impacting academic achievement in order to provide proactive behavior supports that refocuses the student. Assist the teacher with designing, planning, and delivering lessons and activities that increase positive behavior in the classroom and around the school premises. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, and in the library.

Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
• Under the teacher's direction, collect student behavioral data and collaborate with teacher on designing behavior goals. Support students with developing routines and common language to assist with their communication skills regarding classroom behaviors.
• Under the teacher's direction, implement behavior plans to monitor and address positive student behavior and run small groups to address behavior/social emotional concerns of students.
• Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
• Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
• Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information and correspondence.
• Maintain confidentiality with student information.
• Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
• Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
• Comply with District Policies.
• Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
