JOB TITLE:

NICU Travel Nurse

Seeking experienced NICU Travel Nurses to provide specialized care to infants in a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This role involves caring for premature infants (32 weeks gestation or greater) and normal newborns, attending vaginal and cesarean deliveries, and managing patients requiring CPAP/BiPap and feeding tube support.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to neonates in a Level II NICU setting.
  • Admit and care for infants born at 32 weeks gestation or greater, as well as normal newborns.
  • Attend and provide care during vaginal and cesarean deliveries, including high-risk deliveries.
  • Administer respiratory support such as CPAP and BiPap.
  • Manage infant feeding through feeding tubes and syringe pumps.
  • Monitor and manage the physiological and developmental needs of critically ill neonates.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Document patient care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic health record.

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of NICU nursing experience.
  • Must have current BLS and PALS certifications.
  • Must hold active RN license in the state of practice.
  • Must possess a valid state-specific Compact nursing license if applicable.
  • All previous perm employees of ANY Providence affiliated facility must be separated from the health system for a minimum of 3 months to qualify for a travel position.
Certifications:
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • CLS (California Laboratory Science - if applicable to the role/state)
Experience:
  • 2 years of direct NICU nursing experience.
  • Experience attending vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
  • Experience with CPAP/BiPap management.
  • Experience with feeding tubes and syringe pumps.
  • Experience caring for premature infants (32 weeks gestation or greater) and normal newborns.
  • NICU travel nurses are not expected to care for mother-baby couplets unless they already have the skill/competencies.
Skills:
  • Proficient in neonatal assessment and care.
  • Skilled in managing respiratory support for neonates.
  • Competent in medication administration and IV therapy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

  • Neonates including premature infants (32 weeks gestation or greater) and normal newborns.
