Sewer Maintenance Worker

This position is open until filled. Priority consideration will be provided to current City of Edmonds employees who are qualified bargaining unit members and apply by Monday, August 17, 2026 at 4:30 PM. If no internal candidate is selected, the first review date for all other applications received will be Monday, August 24, 2026 at 4:30 PM. This is an integrated job posting and applications are open for candidates who meet the qualifications for either a Sewer Maintenance Worker or a Senior Sewer Maintenance Worker.

The range posted is inclusive of both positions. Sewer Maintenance Worker (PW-I): $6,565.50 - $7,981.50 monthly. Senior Sewer Maintenance Worker (PW-K): $7,239.00 - $8,800.00 monthly. New hires generally start between $6,565.50 and $7,239.00 per month for a Sewer Maintenance Worker and $7,239.00 and $7,981.50 for a Senior Sewer Maintenance Worker. Placement within the position's full wage scale is based on qualifications and professional experience.

About the Position

Sewer Maintenance Worker Under close supervision and the direction and guidance of more experienced staff and management performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repair of the City's sewer system equipment and facilities; operates a variety of vehicles, specialized equipment and hand and power tools.

About the Department

Public Works & Utilities serves a growing population of over 40,000 residents and businesses. The Department is responsible for a wide range of infrastructure maintenance, operations, and civil engineering services to our citizens involving street transportation and traffic control, storm runoff and surface water management, drinking water distribution, sewage collection and conveyance, and wastewater treatment. Edmonds Street Department consists of one manager, one lead and 6 crew members that maintain right of way assets including, but not limited to: streets, sidewalks, alleys, traffic markings-signals-signage, sidewalks, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, roadside vegetation, snow and ice control, public street and pedestrian lighting, etc.

The department works in cooperation with the storm department's seven-member team often sharing manpower and equipment to achieve the department's goals.

- Sewer Maintenance Worker
  • Performs skilled duties in the installation, maintenance and repair of the City's sewer systems equipment and facilities; operates, inspects and maintains lift stations and assists with minor repairs.
  • Operates a variety of vehicles, specialized equipment and hand and power tools including: a dump truck, vactor truck, backhoe, loader, tractor, air compressor, jackhammer, pipe cutter and other equipment; assists in the operation of a TV sewer truck and cleaner.
  • Assists with installing, raising and repair of manholes and replaces metal rings and covers as necessary.
  • Inspects, operates and maintains lift stations, repairs pumps, floats and controls as necessary; cleans and paints pipes, fittings and related items; removes and replaces pipes as necessary.
