The Ministry of Hospital and Surgical Health Services is leading the transformation of Alberta’s acute care system through the creation of Acute Care Alberta, a new provincial health agency that will coordinate services across Cancer Care Alberta, Give Life Alberta, and the Emergency Health Services Corporation. The Procurement Strategic Services Unit under the Strategic Health Innovation and Procurement Branch provides strategic procurement leadership, governance, policy, compliance, and advisory services to support complex procurement activities across Alberta's health system. The unit works collaboratively with business areas, Health Shared Services (HSS), legal partners, and other stakeholders to strengthen procurement governance, enhance oversight and accountability, support informed decision-making, and promote consistent, transparent, and risk-informed procurement practices.

Through strategic advisory services, governance frameworks, policy development, stakeholder engagement, training, compliance monitoring, and the coordination of complex procurement initiatives, the unit supports procurement excellence and alignment with organizational, legislative, and policy requirements.

Role Responsibilities

The Senior Procurement Specialist, Strategic Services plays a key role in supporting complex and high-impact procurement initiatives across government ministries and health sector organizations. Reporting to the Manager, Procurement Strategic Services, the position provides senior-level strategic advice, analysis, and planning support to help stakeholders develop effective, transparent, and defensible procurement approaches. This includes assessing business needs, risks, market conditions, and procurement readiness while helping design sourcing strategies, evaluation methodologies, pricing models, and commercial structures that support organizational objectives.
Working closely with procurement professionals, business leaders, legal services, finance, and other partners, the Senior Procurement Specialist facilitates stakeholder engagement, supports procurement intake, readiness assessments and complex procurement planning activities, and contributes to strategic sourcing initiatives. The role also helps strengthen procurement capability across the organization by developing tools, guidance, training resources, and leading practices, while advancing continuous improvement and modernization efforts that promote consistent, effective procurement outcomes across Alberta’s health system.
