News Editor/Presenter (On-Site) (English Services) (Open) - PM

Your role :

CBC Edmonton is looking for an experienced news editor/presenter to lead our weekday afternoon newscasts to for audiences listening live on the radio and on digital platforms. If you’re an exceptional daily journalist who thrives in the fast‑paced, high pressure world of live, breaking news, read on.

This role requires a full-time, on-site presence. The successful candidate will generally be assigned to work weekdays, 11 a.m. to 7:15 p.m., though flexibility to work other days and shift times will be required.

This is a temporary position, from October 2026 to September 2027.

We also are hiring for a morning news presenter, along with several jobs in our Edmonton station and northern Alberta bureaus. You can see them all here.

Your responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize, line up and deliver newscasts and news breaks.
  • Respond quickly to breaking news, collaborating with journalists across platforms to chase, gather, write and package stories to ensure our coverage is as up-to-date as possible.
  • Write and edit scripts; cut audio clips and package stories.
  • Conduct interviews on and off air.
  • Self-operate the studio audio board during live newscasts.
  • Vet scripts written by other journalists, providing feedback to help them develop their skills and produce content of the highest quality.
  • Report live and breaking news on‑air, interacting with hosts and program participants to provide news updates, analysis and context to enhance the audience’s understanding of issues.
  • Present newscasts on other platforms (streaming, podcasts, digital, video) as required.
Your profile:
  • Demonstrated experience working in live and breaking news in a fast‑paced, multiplatform news environment.
  • Ability to generate, pitch and pursue strong, original story ideas.
  • Strong news judgment and a demonstrated ability to react quickly to breaking news and changing priorities, and chase multiple stories at once.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, including knowledge of the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
  • Engaging on‑air presence, a strong presentation style and an ease with live, on‑air work.
  • Ability to present material with credibility and authority in a range of situations including live events and breaking news.
  • Ability to quickly cut audio clips from a variety of audio and video sources.
  • Superior script writing and script editing skills.
  • An understanding of Alberta’s political landscape, economic drivers and demographics, and a strong proven connection to the communities we serve in and around Edmonton and northern Alberta.
  • A proven work ethic, strong communication skills and a positive, team‑first attitude.
  • A strong desire to live and promote the values of diversity and an inclusive and respectful work culture.
