Reporting to the Manager of Labour Relations, the Labour Relations Advisor has a strong labour and union relations background and is responsible for working closely with employees, union representatives, and Project Teams to ensure compliance with labour agreements, resolve workplace issues, and will assist with building and fostering a positive labour relations environment between our Project Teams and trade union partners.
What You'll Do Here:
Provides labour relations consultation, advice and support in a fast-paced construction environment.Promotes early dispute resolution objectives to identify and reduce potential conflict between Project Teams and trade union partners to promote harmonious labour relations on the job sites.Read, understand and provide counsel regarding interpretation and application of collective agreements with regard to various labour matters (e.g. progressive discipline procedures, performance, attendance management, etc.).Work with operations and union management to resolve Labour Relations issues / conflict. (e.g. Grievances, Arbitrations, Sector / Jurisdictional disputes, workforce shortages, referrals, etc.).Assist operations in developing site specific documents and other site-specific LR planning and strategy.Assist with the creation and review of LR documentation (e.g. wage schedules, prejobs, CA’s, PLA’s, etc.).Fosters effective relationships with Trade Unions and Representatives.Monitor legislation and regulations affecting Labour and Employment and advise management on new developments.Maintains up to date knowledge of construction industry trends and best practices in the sector.Provides training and information sessions to stakeholders on labour relations matters as required.Work with Proposals and Estimating to provide support during pursuits (e.g. application of Collective Agreements, Union enabling efforts, PLA’s, Rate tables etc.).Support and participate in recruitment activities as required.Participate in data audits.Participates in committees and stakeholder committee as required.Other duties and responsibilities as required.What You Bring to the Team:
Degree or diploma in Business Administration and/or Labour Relations or Human Resources is an asset.Demonstrated experience in labour relations, minimum of 2-3 years of experience is required.Good understanding and working knowledge of Building Trades, CLAC and Non-Union labour within the construction industry is required.Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build superior working relationships.Knowledge of provincial labour relations practices and legal framework.Excellent oral and verbal communication skills.Strong problem solving skills and the ability to manage conflict is essential.Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multi task and to function independently.Advanced computer skills MS Office including Excel, Power Point, Word, Outlook and grievance or document management systems.Ability to travel to Project Sites is required.Valid Driver’s License required for frequent travel for meetings.
