The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is committed to ensuring that equity, inclusion, and human rights are valued and embedded into the organization’s culture, policies, and practices. As part of this ongoing commitment, the EPS is seeking an Equity and Inclusion Advisor to design, coordinate, and implement equity, inclusion, and human rights principles and practices using a Gender-Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) framework.
Reporting to the Director of the Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights Branch, the E&I Advisor will be responsible for complex and specialized work involving the goals outlined in EPS operational strategies, including the Human Rights framework. Implementing this work within an organizational culture requires advanced analytical strategies and project management skills to track and evaluate processes and outcomes. The E&I Advisor will be required to conduct equity and inclusion training within the organization, which requires highly developed interpersonal skills, knowledge translation abilities, creativity and experience in facilitation.
Furthermore, the individual in this position is required to work on a small team of Equity and Inclusion professionals and have a creative open‑minded approach to problem solving and engagement. The E&I Advisor will have the ability to draft and respond with recommendations on how EPS addresses their internal and external environments and audience from an equity, inclusion and human rights lens.
Using your expert knowledge in equity, inclusion, and human rights, you will:
Design, develop, and implement equity, inclusion, and human rights processes, programs, and complex activities across a spectrum of policy planning and business functions (strategic plans, process reviews, policy development, frontline operations, and organizational performance measures).
Design, enhance and implement customized equity and inclusion training.
Provide expert advice and guidance to various areas in EPS as it relates to equity, inclusion, intersectionality, and human rights, in strategic planning, operational and community impact, business case development, and program evaluations.
Identify leading and emerging practices in equity and inclusion integration in organizational culture and systems.
Scan, identify and support the organization in addressing systemic and structural barriers to equity and inclusion.
Participate in cross‑organizational and community initiatives that have implications for equity, inclusion, and human rights integration; and
Develop and/or disseminate information and reporting on equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives as required. This includes written and visual formats for reporting and presentations.
Qualifications
A university degree in business administration, public administration or a discipline as required by area of specialization. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a combination of strategic and operational business planning, working with corporate performance measures and budget; business case development. Leadership and project management experience within a public sector environment would be beneficial.
Lived experience and understanding of diverse and marginalized communities is preferred.
Experience in working with diverse communities.
Demonstrated success leading a project with cross‑department collaboration is an asset.
Highly organized and disciplined self‑starter with demonstrated analytical, program planning, and implementation skills.
Significant experience related to anti‑racism and/or equity, diversity, and inclusion program development.
Certification and proven expertise in Gender‑Based Analysis Plus (GBA+) is a requirement.
Experience and comfort in designing and facilitating learning sessions and/or public speaking is a requirement.
Ability to act as a change agent in initiating, supporting, and championing change throughout the organization.
Demonstrated experience in change management and/or project management is an asset.
