The Public Service Commission (PSC) provides human resource services to the Government of Alberta. The Leadership and Talent Management (LTM) Branch cultivates leadership capacity across the Alberta Public Service (APS), with a focus on executive and senior management development. The branch advances APS priorities by strengthening leadership excellence and aligning talent strategies with organizational goals.
As a Pay and Benefits Administrator
, you will play an important role in ensuring Government of Alberta employees are paid accurately, on time and in accordance with legislation, government policies, pay directives and collective agreements.
Reporting to the Payroll Team Lead, you will process payroll and benefits transactions for employees across management, bargaining unit and opted-out/excluded groups. You will also respond to payroll and benefits inquiries, maintain accurate employee records, validate payroll results and help resolve processing issues. This role is well suited to someone who is detail-oriented, comfortable working with established rules and processes, and able to manage competing priorities within strict payroll timelines.
- Process employee payroll and benefits transactions in the government payroll system, ensuring information is accurate, complete and processed within established timelines.
- Set up and orient newly hired employees in the payroll system and process employee and payroll data changes for wage and salary employees.
- Apply legislation, government pay directives, collective and subsidiary agreements, policies and procedures when processing payroll and benefits transactions.
- Respond to payroll and benefits inquiries from employees, supervisors, managers and PSC/HR contacts, providing clear information and guidance on processing requirements.
- Review documentation, identify errors or missing information, maintain supporting records and perform post-audit reviews to confirm payroll transactions are accurate and compliant.
- Investigate and elevate payroll system or processing issues, log tickets when required, and participate in user acceptance testing for system changes, upgrades and enhancements.
- Contribute to team meetings, issue resolution and process improvements, and provide operational coverage for team members when required.
