The Labour Relations Policy and Programs (LRPP) division develops and delivers corporate labour relations and occupational health and safety policies and programs. The Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety Branch provide corporate leadership and expertise in labour relations, dispute resolution, workplace investigations, occupational health and safety, and disability management across the Alberta Public Service.

Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about creating safe, healthy, and compliant workplaces? As an OHS Consultant, you will provide expert advice, guidance, and support to client areas across the Government of Alberta, helping departments implement and continuously improve occupational health and safety programs that protect employees and support operational excellence.

Working closely with leaders, employees, union representatives, and regulatory stakeholders, you will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring legislative compliance, and driving continuous improvement across a large and diverse organization.

OHS Program Development and Implementation
  • Provide expert OHS advice and support to client areas on program development and implementation.
  • Develop policies to support effective hazard assessments, safe work practices, procedures, and OHS plans.
  • Provide professional support and guidance for inspections, incident investigations, and the identification/implementation of corrective actions.
  • Provide professional guidance and support for Serious and Potentially Serious Incidents.
  • Deliver coaching and guidance on OHS requirements, processes, and best practices.
  • Manage OHS records management, retention, data analysis, and compliance requirements.
OHS Committees and Stakeholder Support
  • Provide guidance to departments in establishing and maintaining effective OHS committees and representative structures.
  • Support committee members in fulfilling legislated responsibilities.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across committees and business areas.
  • Liaise with union representatives regarding committee representation and emergent OHS matters.
Reporting, Analytics, and Performance Monitoring
  • Support incident reporting and OHS data collection activities.
  • Analyze OHS metrics and trends to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
  • Prepare reports, summaries, and recommendations for leadership..
  • Monitor implementation of OHS plans and compliance with established standards.
Compliance and Continuous Improvement
  • Conduct program reviews and evaluations against legislative and organizational requirements.
  • Develop action plans to address compliance gaps and program deficiencies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and promote a proactive safety culture.
  • Stay current on legislative changes, emerging risks, and industry best practices.
Relationship Management
  • Build collaborative relationships with HR, Employee Relations, operational leaders, unions, and regulatory agencies.
