Job Summary

Reporting to the Branch Manager, Edmonton, and working in collaboration with the Construction Manager – Western Canada, the Project Manager is responsible for quantifying and executing landscape and snow & ice management services at the Edmonton branch. Primary focus is the safe, profitable and successful execution of landscape construction projects. Seasonally, the Project Manager is responsible for various leadership responsibilities in other business divisions (i.e. snow & ice management) assigned by the Branch Manager.

Responsibilities:

Estimating | Sales | Client Management

  • Seek out and pre-qualify opportunities that align with core competencies of ULS for future opportunities. Includes but not limited to monitoring of public / private websites and engaging in network opportunities within the region.
  • Review plans during estimating and job procurement for plan accuracy. Quantify and produce estimates, in accordance with ULS estimating practices, to meet job scope in a safe and profitable manner.
  • Produce and communicate clear hand-off packages to Superintendents; the packages will clearly define preferred vendors, products, quantities, subcontractors, and budgeted hours allocated for profitability.
  • Work with the Branch Manager, Construction Manager, Superintendents and field staff to execute on each project scope in a safe manner, delivering high quality and meeting or exceeding budget for profitability.
  • Train and support Superintendents to identify, quantify, and secure change orders when required. Maintain accountability from client to complete the contracted scope of work and negotiate changes accordingly.
  • Operations – Safety | Production | Quality Assurance

  • Demonstrate safety leadership and maintain accountability from Team Members and subcontract partners for compliance with safe work practices and protocols.
  • Manage execution of construction projects including but not limited to: safety, quality assurance, client management and profitability.
  • Mentor field staff on safety standards to ensure zero incidents.
  • Develop project schedules for internal crews, equipment, materials and subcontractors that align with the budget and client expectation.
  • Continuous onboarding of landscape construction subcontractor partners.
  • Assist in developing master schedule with the Branch Manager / Construction Manager in alignment with project budgets that is viable for ULS crews and clients.
  • Coordinate project launch meeting with Branch Manager / Construction Manger / Superintendents to clarify budgets and expectations, oversee on-site construction activities to ensure construction activities are executed as per the site plans.
  • Communicate with Superintendents and clients to ensure a thorough understanding of the project scope and timelines. Complete formal communication with client where delays to planned schedule may occur.
  • Provide operational leadership and support to other business divisions during periods of lower activity with primary focus.
  • Finance – Payroll Approval | Invoicing | Interim Reporting

  • Review and complete approvals for payroll hours, vacation requests and other human resources management task within required timelines.
  • Provide directions to the Contract Administrator for on-time invoicing and expense verification of all construction projects. Everything must be documented in accordance with the Matching Principle and project close out activities such as they may be directed by the client.
  • Produce interim financial reporting in accordance with stated schedules and deadlines.
  • Personal – Leadership | Development

  • Conduct yourself in accordance with ULS policies and procedures.
  • Mentor development of future leaders to take over your position.
  • Continue to gain and maintain expertise in all aspects of landscape construction and the other lines of service ULS performs.
  • Communicate effectively and using the appropriate medium with clients and staff.
  • Ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Required Competencies:

  • Minimum ten (10) years of industry related experience.
  • Trade degree / industry certification in landscaping or project management.
