The Position:

We are looking for a full-time, permanent Team Lead – Labour Relations in the Edmonton office, reporting to and working closely with the Manager of Labour Relations. This in-scope position is responsible for the coordination of day-to-day operations of the Labour Relations team by ensuring efficient workflows, effective resource allocation, and timely execution of priorities. This role involves collaborating with other departments to support cross-functional operational needs, improve internal processes, and enhance overall team performance.

Key Responsibilities

Resource Allocation – Coordinate day-to-day team operations in conjunction with the Manager of Labour Relations, assigning and prioritizing work across team members based on capacity, urgency, and organizational priorities.

Team Support – Serve as the first point of escalation for complex or sensitive cases, providing strategic direction on grievance handling, arbitration preparation, and classification reviews, while auditing files to ensure quality and consistency.

Operational Coverage – Step in to manage files, attend meetings, or handle urgent matters in the absence of team members to ensure continuity of service.

Reporting – Compile and analyze labour relations metrics (e.g., grievance trends, arbitration outcomes, case volumes) and prepare regular reports for senior leadership highlighting performance, emerging issues, and progress toward strategic goals.

Process Improvement – Develop and maintain operational documents including workflows, team rosters, procedures, templates, and tracking tools to support team efficiency.

Coaching & Mentorship – Provide ongoing coaching to Labour Relations team members to support skill development and build capacity for independent decision‑making.

What You Bring
You are responsible for coordinating day-to-day team operations, acting as a first point of escalation for complex labour matters, and supporting senior leadership through reporting and strategic guidance. You bring strong expertise in collective agreements, grievance and arbitration processes, and relevant labour legislation, along with proven leadership ability to manage workflows and foster a high-performing team, and the capacity to balance multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You will operate in a typical office setting with regular communication across internal departments and with external members and employers. You also have a strong working knowledge of computer operating systems, customized databases, including intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. You can manage your time effectively but occasionally work outside of regular business hours with the ability to travel throughout Alberta, as required.

You possess a valid driver’s license and have access to a vehicle.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Labour Relations, Labour Law, or a related field; a suitable combination of education and experience may be considered.

Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in Labour Relations, with demonstrated experience working with and representing union members.

Strong knowledge of collective agreements, grievance and arbitration processes, and applicable labour legislation.

Proven ability to lead and support a team, including managing workflows, allocating resources, and fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.

Experience handling complex and sensitive labour relations matters, including grievance handling, arbitration preparation, and classification reviews.
