The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Renewable Energy Project Manager to join the Environment and Climate Change Department. Reporting to the Senior Manager – Climate and Sustainability, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the department’s renewable energy and energy management initiatives under the MNA Climate Change Action Plan, supporting the design and implementation while ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
The position is central to advancing the Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s emissions reduction targets and expanding renewable energy portfolio, including solar projects at Otipemisiwak Métis Government‑owned facilities, as well as community and utility‑scale projects, and supporting related sustainability projects, including energy management and efficiency efforts. As a key member of the leadership team, the Project Manager fosters a collaborative and high‑performing environment.
The successful candidate will be an organized individual who thrives in a busy environment, communicates well with multiple stakeholders, and can effectively originate, fund, lead the construction, operation and expansion of a portfolio of renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and expand renewable energy projects and initiatives through the development, implementation, coordination, and execution of renewable energy initiatives at the Otipemisiwak Métis Government including origination, design, funding, construction, operation and reporting.
Oversee the operation and expansion of a portfolio of 37 micro‑generation solar sites across Alberta, and Salay Prayzaan, a 6 MW community generation solar power plant.
Identify, plan, fund, implement, and report on renewable energy projects under the Climate Change Action Plan, and support of energy efficiency retrofits, and other sustainability measures.
Maintain renewable energy performance and an evaluations portfolio to measure energy use and generation to ensure energy and sustainability benchmarks are met.
Request and evaluate bids from potential contractors and/or consultants, provide recommendations to senior leadership, and manage proposals to meet goals of projects and initiatives.
Secure industry and community partnerships on the development of new large‑scale renewable energy projects.
Manage project contractors and consultants, oversee site plans and contracts, manage site visits and project work, and verify completion and final execution of project work.
Lead community engagement sessions, learning opportunities, and energy and sustainability education workshops.
Lead grant proposals and partnerships planning, funding, implementation and reporting in relation to renewable energy initiatives.
Contribute to policy development, including Métis‑specific energy and sustainability frameworks.
Prepare various reports and documents including briefing notes, presentations, and project reports for senior leadership, community, and funders.
Participate in ongoing professional development through training, workshops, and conferences.
Stay current on legislation or regulations relevant to the energy field.
Assist with the planning and administration of budgets for staffing, projects, equipment, and supplies.
Support onboarding and training of new team members, as required, ensuring consistent processes, tools, and workflows.
Present a positive and professional image of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government when interacting with employees, citizens, and other external stakeholders.
