In collaboration with the courts of Alberta, Court and Justice Services provides various programs and services including educating and helping Albertans finding solutions for legal issues, navigating the court system, offering programs at no cost or a nominal charge, and administrative support to all courts in Alberta.

Role Responsibilities

As Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for Edmonton Court of Justice operations across Civil, Criminal, Family, Youth and Traffic. Reporting to the Executive Director, Court of Justice Operations, you will lead staff, manage a budget in excess of $12 million, and contribute to divisional and ministry-wide priorities through strong decision-making, relationship management, operational oversight and continuous improvement.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Lead a diverse Court of Justice team by providing strategic and operational leadership for court administration services in alignment with government, ministry and court priorities.
  • Oversee all operational activities to achieve strategic priorities within Court of Justice Operations teams.
  • Lead resources and operational planning to support transformation, process standardization and continuous improvement across court administration services.
  • Assist the Executive Director by providing strategic, visionary leadership in Court of Justice operations initiatives that establish and sustain excellent delivery of key strategic priorities.
  • Report on the results of the Court of Justice operations teams and assisting the Executive Director in the analysis and evaluation of overall Court of Justice administration activities, including regular and systemic reporting of these results to the Assistant Deputy Minister and the Chief Justice of the Court of Justice.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the judiciary, internal partners and external stakeholders to support organizational capacity, alignment and effective court administration services.
  • Develop effective partnerships with all stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of Court of Justice administration services.
  • Lead workforce alignment by building understanding of role expectations and required competencies, and by fostering a positive organizational culture with a shared sense of purpose and accountability.
  • Implement the accountability processes at the Court of Justice team level (i.e. performance measurement, program evaluation) to ensure excellence in the delivery of integrated resolution and court administration service.

Skills and abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to represent Court of Justice Operations when interacting with key stakeholders.
  • Experience in project management and change management with demonstrated ability to strategize and create effective solutions and see them through implementation.
  • Excellent negotiation skills to effectively resolve issues and influence action of others that are not direct reports.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated high degree of professionalism.
