Job Description & How to Apply Below
Driven by a vision to eliminate poverty in our community, Bissell Centre’s data-driven approach is rooted in a deep belief in the dignity, strength, and potential of every individual. Through compassion, optimism, and strong relationships, our prevention and stabilization strategy and programs empower people by supporting our community to secure housing and build sustainable livelihoods. Our community comes from all walks of life, and so does our team—united by a shared commitment to create real, lasting change.

By joining Bissell Centre, you will become part of a fast-paced and dedicated team that works together to realize our vision.
Currently, Bissell Centre is looking for an  Extreme Weather Response Coordinator  to join our dedicated  Extreme Weather Response   team  as we journey with the Community towards an elimination of poverty. If you’re ready to bring your heart to a fast-paced, collaborative environment, join us in making an impact in our community.
How You’ll Make an Impact?  The Extreme Weather Response Coordinator provides nightly operational leadership for Bissell Centre’s participation in the City of Edmonton’s Extreme Weather Response.
This role directly supervises a team of  six full-time Support Workers and a pool of casual relief staff  delivering frontline services on the Extreme Weather Response Shuttle, which operates nightly to transport vulnerable Community Members to safe overnight shelters during periods of extreme cold.
The coordinator ensures smooth nightly operations, supports staff through on-site presence and debriefing, monitors safety, and participates in an  on-call rotation with Bissell’s 24/7 supportive housing site  to support after-hours incident response and coverage needs.
This is a hands-on, mobile leadership role ideal for someone with strong frontline experience, crisis response skills, and the ability to lead teams in fast-paced environments.
Lead nightly operations of the Extreme Weather Response Shuttle, ensuring safe, timely, and trauma-informed service delivery.
Oversee daily operations of the Extreme Weather Response Shuttle, staff assignments, attendance, and role coverage each shift.
Liaise with bus operators, shelter staff, Transit Peace Officers, and Edmonton Police Service to coordinate service flow and respond to incidents.
Monitor staffing levels and coordinate last-minute scheduling adjustments or call-ins as needed. If coverage cannot be found, the Coordinator would be expected to cover the shift to ensure continued operations.
Provide on-the-ground leadership and presence during shuttle operations to support staff and Community Members.

What You’ll Bring ?
The successful candidate will have a minimum of a degree or diploma in a human services field with 2-3 years of direct experience working with the vulnerable population.
Valid Standard First Aid and CPR.
Experience supervising diverse frontline teams, preferably in high-pressure environments.
Strong knowledge of homelessness systems, harm reduction, client-centered and trauma-informed care, and culturally safe practices.
Familiarity with financial empowerment, family support, FASD-informed practice and system navigation approaches an asset.
Demonstrated ability to manage safety risks and respond effectively to crises.
Strong data literacy and comfort with case management systems (Starting Point, ORBIT, or equivalent).
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
Culturally safe and trauma-informed practice, including understanding of Indigenous historical and intergenerational trauma.
Why Choose Bissell Centre?  At Bissell Centre, we believe meaningful work starts with a supportive and inclusive culture. We value individuality, are guided by strong values, and are committed to supporting staff growth and wellbeing. We offer a competitive Total Rewards package that reflects our commitment, including:
