Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer – Contaminated Sites

Play an integral role in Worley Consulting’s Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) practice, where technical expertise, environmental stewardship, and innovative problem-solving help clients manage environmental liabilities, restore impacted sites, and deliver sustainable outcomes across the full asset lifecycle. As part of our Contaminated Sites team, you will lead environmental assessment, remediation, reclamation, and monitoring projects that support responsible development and long-term asset stewardship across Alberta and northern Canada.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced environmental professional to combine technical leadership, project delivery, client engagement, and mentorship while helping clients navigate complex environmental challenges and regulatory requirements. You will contribute to projects that create lasting value for clients, communities, and the environment while helping to shape the growth and success of Worley’s Liability Management and Restoration (LMR) practice.

As a Senior Environmental Scientist or Engineer
, you will provide leadership in the planning and execution of contaminated site assessment, remediation, reclamation, and environmental monitoring programs. You will balance technical expertise, field leadership, project coordination, and mentoring responsibilities while ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Working closely with Project Managers, technical specialists, clients, contractors, regulators, and multidisciplinary project teams, you will lead field investigations, guide technical decision-making, support business objectives, and help develop the next generation of environmental professionals. This position offers a clear pathway toward increased project management, technical leadership, and client-facing responsibilities within Worley Consulting.

Calgary, Alberta or Edmonton, Alberta

This is a full-time position based in either Worley Consulting’s Calgary or Edmonton office. The role includes frequent travel throughout Alberta and may involve assignments in the Northwest Territories and other northern or Arctic regions. Field programs may require remote-site work, extended travel, and work in challenging environmental conditions.

You will be responsible for
  • Leading environmental field programs, including groundwater and surface water monitoring, soil sampling, drilling oversight, borehole logging, monitoring well installation, test pitting, remedial excavations, and reclamation activities.
  • Managing a combination of field-based and office-based responsibilities, including technical analysis, reporting, project coordination, and client support.
  • Planning and executing Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), including investigation design, field oversight, data interpretation, and reporting.
  • Providing technical leadership and oversight on contaminated sites, remediation, reclamation, and environmental monitoring projects.
  • Mentoring, coaching, and supporting the development of junior and intermediate environmental professionals through technical guidance and field leadership.
  • Driving safe project execution through strong leadership, effective communication, quality field documentation, issue resolution, and adherence to project objectives.
  • Supporting Project Managers with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, resource management, and client communication.
