POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Production Manager and Store Team Lead, the Auto Body Technician is responsible for performing high‑quality structural and non‑structural repairs while supporting efficient vehicle flow through the repair process. This position plays a critical role in ensuring repairs are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with OEM procedures, insurance requirements, CARSTAR standards, and JOHNNY K CARSTAR Group quality expectations.
The successful candidate takes pride in their workmanship, communicates effectively with production staff, and contributes to a positive, team‑oriented workplace.
KEY RESPONSIBILTIES
COLLISION REPAIR & VEHICLE RESTORATION
Perform complete structural and non‑structural collision repairs.
Repair or replace damaged body panels, components, and assemblies.
Straighten frames and unibody structures using approved repair methods.
Restore vehicles to pre‑accident condition while meeting manufacturer specifications.
Ensure repairs comply with OEM repair procedures and industry best practices.
Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining the highest quality standards.
REPAIR PLANNING & DOCUMENTATION
Fully dismantle assigned vehicles to expose all collision damage.
Remove trim, mouldings, blend panel components, and associated parts to ensure accurate damage identification.
Identify all visible and hidden damage early in the repair process to reduce delays and improve cycle time.
Compare vehicle damage with repair estimates and identify discrepancies.
Document additional damage requiring supplements.
Communicate repair changes immediately with the Estimator or Production Manager.
Accurately document repair progress throughout each stage of the repair.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
Perform ongoing quality inspections throughout repairs.
Verify proper panel alignment, fit, finish, and structural integrity.
Complete final quality inspections before vehicles proceed to refinishing or delivery.
Ensure all completed work meets all quality standards.
PRODUCTION & TEAM COLLABORATION
Attend daily production meetings.
Communicate parts shortages, repair delays, and supplement requirements proactively.
Collaborate closely with Appraisers, Customer Service Representative, Parts Coordinators, Refinish Technicians, Detailers, and Leadership to maintain efficient workflow.
Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve productivity and repair quality.
PARTS MANAGEMENT
Verify replacement parts prior to installation.
Identify incorrect, damaged, or missing parts immediately.
Return unused or incorrect parts promptly.
Maintain accountability for parts assigned to repair orders.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
OR 5+ years of progressive collision repair experience
Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
Strong understanding of collision repair procedures
Ability to read and interpret repair estimates
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong communication and teamwork abilities
Commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction
Preferred
Experience using Body Shop Connect
I‑CAR Platinum or current I‑CAR training
OEM certification training
Frame measuring and structural repair experience
ADAS awareness or calibration experience
