The Town of Stony Plain is the local government authority responsible for planning and delivering municipal services in Stony Plain, a Canadian urban community of approximately 18,000 people on the traditional Indigenous lands of Treaty 6 peoples.
Job DescriptionThe Town of Stony Plain is currently recruiting a temporary full-time Heavy Equipment Operator. Reporting to the Foreman, Roads, this position will be responsible for asphalt and gravel road maintenance including ditches, culverts and bridges, ice control, snow removal, street sweeping, dust control, pavement marking, sidewalks and traffic control devices. The Operator will also assist other divisions as required.
- Is experience in operating motor graders and snowplow trucks.
- Has experience operating a variety of heavy and light equipment.
- Demonstrates strong mechanical aptitude.
- Has knowledge of and commitment to construction worksite safety practices.
- Is able and willingto work weekends and evening overtime shifts as required.
- Is available to participate in a rotational on-call schedule.
- Is physically capable of using hand tools, lifting objects over 25 lbs., working in uncomfortable positions, standing and walking throughout the day, and working effectively in adverse weather conditions.
Education and Experience:
- Experience with heavy equipment such as graders, backhoes, loaders, street sweepers, snowplow trucks, and skid steers.
- Class 3 Alberta Operators License with air brake endorsement is required.
- 3-5 years of related experience operating motor graders and other heavy equipment.
- High School Diploma.

This is a temporary position with an expected end date of December 31, 2026, with the possibility of an extension. Based on a 40-hour work week, the wage for this position will be in accordance with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 955 Collective Agreement.
