Journeyman Electrician - Street Lighting & Infrastructure

What You'll Do
As a Journeyman Electrician, you will support the installation of electrical systems and underground utility infrastructure, including airfield electrical lighting, distribution systems, street lighting, and related electrical construction projects throughout the Edmonton area.

Working alongside Foremen, Apprentices, and project crews, you'll play an important role in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Responsibilities Include

Performing aerial work using bucket trucks to install and replace lighting towers, flood lights, ballasts, and related equipment

Installing lighting and power distribution systems, including vaults, pull-pits, conduit, cabling, and lighting towers

Performing trenching activities and installing conduit for underground electrical and utility systems

Building and installing temporary power panels and electrical cabinets

Installing electrical equipment on structures and assisting with concrete foundation installations for street lighting infrastructure

Assisting with or performing panel terminations for street lighting and distribution systems

Troubleshooting and testing electrical circuits and cables, including AC and DC 5KV systems

Maintaining clear communication with supervisors, team members, and project stakeholders

Completing project documentation as required

Identifying hazards and participating in hazard assessments and control measures

Following all company safety policies, procedures, Task Hazard Assessments (THAs), and Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs)

Supporting Apprentices through mentorship, guidance, and leadership in the field

Performing other related duties as required

Work outdoors in varying weather conditions throughout the year

Perform physically demanding work including lifting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and walking on uneven ground

Work at heights utilizing bucket trucks and aerial equipment

Work 8-10 hour shifts, 5-6 days per week, with overtime opportunities available

Participate in underground utility and electrical installations in active construction environments

Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity while working around crews, equipment, and live infrastructure

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

Alberta Journeyman Electrician certification or equivalent recognized trade certification

Current indentured Electrical Apprentice (3rd Year) may also be considered

Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence

Reliable transportation

Experience operating construction equipment

Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, bend, and perform physical work throughout the day

Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship

Assets That Will Help You Stand Out
While not required, we'd love to hear from candidates who have:

Street lighting installation experience

Airfield electrical lighting experience

Experience operating bucket trucks and aerial work platforms

Underground utility construction experience

Distribution system installation experience

Experience troubleshooting and testing electrical systems

Ground Disturbance Level II

Standard First Aid & CPR

Experience mentoring Apprentices and supporting crew development
