Automotive Mechanic
Edmonton Catholic Schools is seeking an Automotive Mechanic to join their Facility Services Team! The Automotive Mechanic performs a range of skilled repair and maintenance work on automobiles, light trucks and small engine equipment. Responsibilities include inspection, diagnosis and repair of mechanical, electrical and other defects on Division vehicles. The work also includes regular maintenance, service and repair to all vehicle systems including but not limited to braking systems, tire replacement and balancing, starters, alternators, aftermarket accessories, and minor body repairs.

The job coordinates Division vehicles maintenance and repair projects, including planning, scheduling, on‑site inspection, facilitating and coordinating with project participants. The job may be required coach staff to achieve smooth workflow explaining procedures to co‑workers.

Work involves procedures of a technical nature and uses hand/power tools and various sophisticated test equipment. The job works with minimal supervision or as part of various teams in completing projects and activities.

There is considerable discretion exercised by the incumbent in the performance of its regular duties. Responsibilities require a current Journeyman Automotive Service Technician certification plus several years of related experience.

Work is performed within the Division/department policies and procedures and is guided by automotive and maintenance repair standards and principles and those established by the department. Work is completed in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) regulations and guidelines and the Division’s goals and objectives.

Job Responsibilities
Project Management

Maintain vehicle records by recording service inspections and repairs

Monitor, repair and/or replace component parts of vehicle fleet including brakes, steering joints, cooling systems, lights, tires, suspension, and body components etc.

Monitor reports on small engines and maintain records of service

Repair and/or rebuild small engines, overhaul and service lawnmowers, snow blowers, sweepers and other mechanical equipment of similar complexity

Determine where repairs are required and the most efficient method to complete the work in order of priority

Perform testing on equipment using various diagnostic and testing devices to ensure they are within specified standards

Certify serviceable equipment and identify items that are no longer serviceable and report/remove/replace

Test and assess new equipment items and components on an ongoing basis

Assist department staff with a variety of projects and provide cover‑off during absences

Maintain technical knowledge through courses, workshops, seminars and trade publications

Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor

Maintenance and Repairs

Assist in development of preventive maintenance program and assess existing equipment for scheduled maintenance/renewal

Respond to problem notification service requests and repair

Restore emergency power plant engines in the various schools
