Position: Powerline Technician (Distribution)
Our Distribution group is currently seeking Powerline Technicians (PLT) to join our team, based in Edmonton or Northern Alberta.
Reporting to the Operations Lead, these position lead construction of, and maintain / repair overhead and underground electrical distribution systems, working with cables, conduits, and associated equipment like transformers and splicing tools. They install, troubleshoot, and repair power lines, often working at heights or in confined spaces such as trenches.
Duties and Responsibilities
Install, splice, terminate, and maintain overhead and underground power cables, vaults, conduits, and related equipmentPerform troubleshooting, fault locating, and repairs on distribution systemsOperate and maintain specialized tools and equipment such as cable pulling rigs, fault locators, splicing kits, and test instrumentsConduct switching and grounding of high-voltage equipment in accordance with utility safety standards and work proceduresRead and interpret construction drawings, single-line diagrams, and underground cable mapsEnsure compliance with safety regulations, utility codes, and company standardsCollaborate with engineers, supervisors, and other crew members to complete projects efficientlyRespond to emergency outages and perform restoration work in a timely mannerMaintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and test resultsRequirements
Journeyperson Powerline Technician CertificationProven experience working with power distribution systemsStrong knowledge of electrical theory, powerline construction practices, and safety proceduresProficient in the use of locating, splicing, and testing equipmentValid driver’s licenseAbility to work on-call and respond to emergency situations when requiredBenefits
