What is the Role:Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, the Dean of Students (DOS) safeguards the welfare of the student body, protects rights, upholds community standards, and maintains a quality of life, leading student conduct efforts, coordinating crisis responses, and managing key student support operations. The DOS bridges students and university support services, upholds community standards while advocating for student success and well‑being.
What You Will Do:- Lead the university’s student conduct system as chief judicial administrator, overseeing case reviews, appeals, hearings, and ensuring fair application of the Student Code of Conduct.
- Direct student basic‑needs initiatives including the food pantry, grant‑seeking, and support for housing‑insecure students, while guiding non‑clinical case management and student care efforts.
- Serve as primary crisis‑response administrator for student emergencies, co‑chair the behavioral intervention/threat assessment team and provide leadership during campus incidents, demonstrations, and after‑hours emergencies.
- Drive institutional success by collaborating across divisions to advance SIUE’s goals of reaching 14,500 enrollment, 90 % first‑to‑second‑year retention, and closing equity gaps.
- You thrive in crisis situations and can balance empathy with decisive action, responding to after‑hours emergencies, managing threat assessments, or supporting students and families during critical incidents.
- You’re a skilled administrator who can navigate complex compliance requirements, interpret federal and state laws, and implement systems that protect both students and the institution.
- You excel at cross‑functional collaboration and can build strong partnerships with faculty, police, legal counsel, Title IX office, and community organizations.
- You’re committed to using data‑informed decision‑making to identify emerging needs, advocate for policy changes, and create inclusive support systems that directly impact retention and graduation rates.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
- 7 years of relevant and progressive experience in higher education.
- 4 years of cumulative experience in mediation, conflict resolution, student conduct, campus free expression, non‑clinical case management, or support of basic‑needs security.
- 4 years cumulative experience managing staff, including hiring, mentoring, and retaining talent.
