Process Engineer, Wood River Refinery

Phillips 66 is looking for a Process Engineer I to join the Wood River Refinery team in Illinois. The role focuses on enhancing safety, reliability, and profitability across refinery process units by providing technical expertise, supporting operations, maintenance, optimization, and technical services.

• Contribute to the implementation and optimization of industrial processes and equipment to support safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
• Analyze data, specify process steps, and help develop engineering solutions that meet cost, quality, and regulatory standards.
• Support technical troubleshooting, participate in research activities, and create engineering drawings to communicate and validate ideas.
• Help draft and evaluate engineering standards, contribute to project management efforts, and design test procedures to ensure robust solutions.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for process improvement, safety enhancements, and sustainability.
• Provide technical support for projects, maintenance, and unit operations, including major turnarounds and startups.
• Play an active role in process safety management activities and maintain key process documentation.
• Demonstrate a commitment to workplace safety and build capabilities through ongoing learning, staying current with industry best practices and emerging technologies.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Travel up to 5% of the time.
• Operate company vehicle on site premises and/or public roads up to X% of the time.
• Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, and perform occasional duties.
• Transport articles up to 50 pounds.
• Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet.
• Work safely near large, hot, high‑speed machines, around chemicals and hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, and in harsh weather conditions.
• Wear fire‑retardant clothing and personal protective equipment.
• Maintain face daily for proper respirator/face mask seal (e.g., no facial hair or clean shaven).
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• At least 1 year of engineering experience in the energy industry.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 3 or more years of experience working as a Process Engineer at a refinery.

Base salary range: $111,600 – $136,400 per year.
