Description

Engineer in Training II – Field Services for Modjeski and Masters, Inc. to work at our Edwardsville, IL location. May telecommute up to 3 days/week. Review and interpret bridge plans, specs, and technical reports to assist inspection and construction teams, identifying discrepancies and contributing to accurate assessments under supervision. Conduct basic inspections of bridge construction and related infrastructure to verify compliance with design documents and report findings to supervising engineers.

Interpret drawings and specs to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction. Prepare concise summary reports detailing inspection findings, site conditions, contractor activities, and meeting outcomes, formatted for review by project managers and clients. Coordinate and produce project documentation including technical reports, memos, and correspondence for internal and external stakeholders, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with project standards and communication protocols.

Review and check standard structural design calculations. Perform structural evaluations using multiple software platforms, interpret results, and contribute insights to engineering discussions, ensuring findings are clearly communicated to project managers and technical leads. Develop preliminary details using CAD software, and provide information to CAD technicians for development of contract plans directly related to design work. Perform and check quantity takeoffs from contract plans.

Work conditions can involve climbing on high bridge structures and working from aerial access equipment/working from walkways/platforms at high elevation. May undergo background checks including drug screen; MV Record check; security BGC for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC. Limited national travel (up to 1-2 days per week; 25-49% of time) to field inspections and trainings. In a single trip, travel typically 5-10 days but can extend to more than 10 days.

Wage: $85,904 to $95,000. Modjeski and Masters, Inc. provides a comprehensive benefits package (see at ). Must have Bachelor's in Civil or Structural Engineering; 2 years relevant engineering experience; and required skills (2 years exp). Alternatively, must have Master's in Civil or Structural Engineering; 1 year relevant engineering experience; and required skills (1 year exp).
