Engineer in Training II – Field Services for Modjeski and Masters, Inc., to work at our Edwardsville, IL location. May telecommute up to 3 days per week.
Responsibilities include:
review & interpret bridge plans, specs, & technical reports to assist inspection & construction teams, identifying discrepancies & contributing to accurate assessments under supervision. Conduct basic inspections of bridge construction & related infrastructure to verify compliance with design documents and report findings to supervising engineers. Interpret drawings & specs to ensure compliance with regulations governing construction. Prepare concise summary reports detailing inspection findings, site conditions, contractor activities, & meeting outcomes, formatted for review by project managers & clients.
Coordinate & produce project documentation, including technical reports, memos, & correspondence for internal & external stakeholders, ensuring consistency, clarity, & alignment with project standards & communication protocols. Review & check standard structural design calculations. Perform structural evaluations using multiple software platforms, interpret results, & contribute insights to engineering discussions, ensuring findings are clearly communicated to project managers & technical leads.
Develop preliminary details using CAD software, & provide info to CAD technicians for development of contract plans directly related to design work. Perform & check quantity takeoffs from contract plans.
Work conditions may involve climbing on high bridge structures & working from aerial access equipment/working from walkways/platforms at high elevation. May undergo background checks including drug screen, MV record check, security BGC for e-RAILSAFE and TWIC. Limited national travel (up to 1–2 days per week; 25–49% of time) to field inspections & trainings. In a single trip, travel typically 5–10 days but can extend to more than 10 days.
Wage: $85,904 to $95,000.

Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with 2 years of relevant engineering experience, and required skills (2 years experience) in bridge-related projects. Alternatively, must have a Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with 1 year of relevant engineering experience, and required skills (1 year experience) in bridge-related projects. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.
