Network Engineer, Systems Engineer
Location: Edwardsville, IL
* Must currently live in Edwardsville, IL or the St. Louis area*
Schedule: On-site, 5 days/week
Duration: 12+ month contract
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Network Engineer to support a large-scale enterprise network environment. This individual will serve as a senior-level technical resource responsible for designing, supporting, troubleshooting, and optimizing complex network infrastructure in a fast-paced operational environment. This is a hands-on role requiring deep technical expertise, strong problem-solving ability, and a proactive mindset focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, support, and optimize enterprise network infrastructure including routers, switches, wireless, and SD-WAN technologies
- Provide advanced support and serve as an escalation point for complex network issues
- Develop and maintain operational runbooks and technical documentation for Tier 1 support teams
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to increase efficiency and reliability
- Create and enhance operational reporting and monitoring capabilities
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and stakeholders to support infrastructure initiatives and project delivery
- Support day-to-day network operations in a large enterprise environment
- 10+ years of enterprise network engineering experience (10+ years)
- Strong experience with enterprise routing and switching
- Hands-on experience with Fortinet technologies, particularly in security and/or SD-WAN environments
- Experience supporting complex wireless and network infrastructure environments
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Juniper networking technologies (preferred, not required)
- Cisco networking experience will also be considered
- Experience with Arista, including VxLAN and EVPN/BGP-based switching environments
- Experience with SD-WAN platforms such as Versa, Fortinet, or similar
- Exposure to network access control (NAC) platforms such as Forescout is a plus
- Relevant certifications (Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Fortinet, or similar) are a plus
