at 11:59 PM Eastern TimeDescriptionThe Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (ADAA) serves as the chief academic officer of the School of Nursing and a strategic partner to the Dean. This senior executive leadership role provides comprehensive oversight of academic programs, including curriculum, assessment, accreditation, and academic operations across undergraduate and graduate education. The ADAA leads continuous quality improvement efforts, ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and advances innovative academic and community partnerships aligned with the School's mission and strategic priorities.
The Associate Dean is a member of the School of Nursing Leadership Team and collaborates closely with the Dean, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Student Services, Assistant Deans, Chairs, Program Directors, Coordinators, and university leadership. This is a 12-month fiscal appointment with optional teaching responsibilities, as determined by the Dean. Undergoes administrative review after the second year and every three years thereafter, incorporating faculty feedback.
AcademicLeadership & Curriculum Oversight
- Provides strategic leadership and oversight of all undergraduate and graduate curricula, ensuring academic rigor, innovation, and alignment with professional standards.
- Leads School of Nursing curriculum development, evaluation, and revision in collaboration with faculty governance structures.
- Leads the School of Nursing in innovative programmatic, pedagogical, and curricular initiatives, including the use of AI.
- Oversees systematic program assessment processes, including student learning outcomes, program effectiveness, and continuous quality improvement.
- In collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs, tracks progress of direct entry students with pre-nursing courses and works with other SIUE units to ensure student success and progression.
- Serves as ex-officio member of the Data Assessment Committee.
- Directs all accreditation activities, including self-studies, reports, and site visit preparation for accrediting bodies such as Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements, including those related to the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements and Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
- Leads institutional and programmatic assessment initiatives, ensuring data-driven decision-making and accountability.
- Oversees course scheduling and academic scheduling components in collaboration with Program Directors/ Department Chairs and SIUE academic scheduling.
- Provides leadership for academic policies and procedures related to faculty roles, workload, course evaluations, and performance expectations.
- Serves as liaison with the Office of the Provost and General Counsel on academic and faculty-related matters.
- In collaboration with Assistant Deans and Chairs, oversees systems for tracking faculty compliance and credentialing requirements.
- Oversees updates and revisions of the faculty handbook annually.
- Supervises and evaluates:
Director of Instructional Design, Director of Simulation/Clinical Learning Center, Assigned academic support staff, Director of Assessment.
Provides strategic direction for simulation, clinical education infrastructure, instructional innovation, including online and hybrid learning modalities, and assessment initiatives.
Provides collaborative and visionary leadership that promotes collegiality and relationship building within the School of Nursing and across the university and clinical partner community.
