- Lateral. This community‑oriented law‑enforcement agency provides 24/7 safety and security for the university community.

• Patrol University communities (Edwardsville, East St. Louis, and Alton) by car or on foot.
• Control and assist the movement of vehicles and pedestrian traffic by physically directing traffic.
• Respond to requests for non‑enforcement service assistance.
• Identify, investigate, and report hazards that might endanger public safety or property.
• Assist other local law‑enforcement agencies as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the department’s mission.

• At least two (2) years of full‑time sworn and certified law‑enforcement experience.
• Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) or eligibility to be certified.
• No disqualifying suspension history with current or most recent employer.
• No break in law‑enforcement service of more than three (3) years.
• Pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, police records checks, credit checks, and neighbor or employer inquiries.
• Successfully complete required screening: polygraph, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screen.
• Must serve a 12‑month probationary period upon hire.

Base pay is determined by years of service and educational degree. Example rates: 0‑2 years – $39.37 (Associate’s), $39.87 (Bachelor’s); 3 years – $40.55 (Associate’s), $41.05 (Bachelor’s); 6 years – $41.73/ $42.23; 9 years – $42.91/ $43.41. Additional $0.50 per hour for EMT certification. Position is non‑exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
