Assistant Dean of Students (AP27-005) is a central support and coordination hub for student well‑being, accountability, and success at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, designed to advance social and economic mobility for the student body.
What You Will Do- Serve as the primary liaison for student care and advocacy, ensuring students receive timely guidance, resources, and advocacy to overcome challenges that impact academic progress or personal stability.
- Oversee student conduct and accountability systems, coordinate crisis response and student care processes, and manage workflows such as CARE reports, medical leaves of absence, and basic needs support services.
- Collaborate closely with campus partners—including faculty, staff, and external agencies—to create coordinated responses to student needs, resulting in structured support plans, educational interventions, and programs that promote awareness, reporting, and engagement.
FLSA:
Exempt
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of higher‑education experience in student conduct administration, student engagement, crisis response, student wellbeing, student success, behavioral intervention, or related duties.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in crisis management and response (can overlap with prior experience).
- Knowledge of contemporary theory, research, and current issues related to college student support.
- Understanding of federal and state laws governing student conduct and case management, including FERPA, Title IX, VAWA, Clery Act, and ADA.
- Five or more years of post‑master’s experience.
- Experience supervising full‑time staff.
- Experience with the Maxient system.
- Deep knowledge of legal and cultural factors affecting students facing mental distress, poverty, homelessness, and food insecurity.
- Ability to manage complex situations compassionately and empathetically.
- Experience administering programming within a community or higher‑education setting.
