POSITION SUMMARY
Sterile Processing Technician II is an intermediate, certified role responsible for independently performing all aspects of instrument decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution in accordance with manufacturer instructions, departmental policies, and applicable regulatory standards. This position demonstrates consistent proficiency, sound judgement, and accountability in daily operations while maintaining high quality and productivity expectations. Technician II serves as a resource to entry‑level staff, assists with training and mentoring, and actively supports quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement efforts.
This role plays a key part in ensuring patient safety, surgical readiness, and compliance with AAMI and Joint Commission standards.
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or Equivalent.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Certification (CRCST or CBSPD)
EXPERIENCE:- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in Sterile Processing Department (SPD), Central Sterile, or equivalent healthcare reprocessing environment.
- Demonstrated independent competency in:
- Decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments.
- Following and interpreting manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs)
- Operating sterilizers, washers‑disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, and related equipment.
- Experience using instrument tracking systems (e.g., SPM, T‑DOC, Censi Trac, or equivalent)
- Exposure to regulatory standards, including:
- AAMI ST79 and other applicable AAMI standards (working knowledge)
- Joint Commission or CMS survey expectations (practical awareness)
- Independently perform all sterile processing functions.
- Monitor sterilization and biological indicator result for compliance.
- Troubleshoot equipment and instrument issues.
- Assist with inventory management, loaner/consignment processing, and case cart preparation.
- Train and mentor Technician I staff.
- Collaborate with OR staff and vendors to ensure surgical readiness.
- Participate in audits, quality checks, and process improvements
Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens along with infectious diseases. (Refers to Blood Bourne Pathogen requirement)

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPSterile Processing Technician II reports directly to the Sterile Processing Supervisor or Manager. This position works under direct supervision and receives day‑to‑day guidance and oversight from assigned Lead technicians or Preceptor.
