Paraprofessionals – Part-Time (29.5 hours/week)
Reports To: Building Principal and Supervisor of Special Education
Job Purpose: To assist assigned special education student(s) in the classroom providing the appropriate support detailed in the student s Individual Education Plan (IEP).Assist the classroom teacher with creating and maintaining a learning environment conducive to the student s learning needs.
Qualifications
- Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to work well with school age students
- Ability to read and write English
- Ability to speak English clearly and accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to be cooperative, congenial, and service-oriented
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent interruptions
- Ability to support one-on-one student or small groups 3-4 students
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to exercise "good" judgment
- Must be able to pass the NJ Criminal History Review
- Must be able to pass the post-offer physical examination
- Must be able tosubmit the Sexual Misconduct/Child Abuse Disclosure Form
- Must be able to work with children who have moderate to severe special needs
Qualifications-Desired:
- 1-2 years of experience working with special needs students
- Associate s Degree
- NJ Substitute Certification
- Computer literate
- Establishes and maintains a positive rapport with the student(s), classroom teacher, and student s parent/guardian
- Maintains the safety of the student by providing a safe, organized environment for effective and independent learning
- Provides student(s) with supportive and supplemental instructional assistance
- Provides assistance with academics in all academic areas
- Accompanies student(s) to special events and to other classrooms, including music, art, and physical education
- Reviews and reinforces skills and concepts taught by the classroom teacher
- Sets up and maintains special classroom equipment and learning centers under the direction of the classroom teacher
- Instructs individual and small groups of students using instruction objectives from lessons developed by the classroom teacher
- Provides assistance with individualized program materials-written and oral
- Implements classroom behavioral management strategies and/or individual student behavior plans
- Provides information as needed to special education teacher regarding a student s behavior in special areas
- Gains a working knowledge about the student(s) and provides assistance to special area teachers
- Assists student(s) with personal and hygienic care, when necessary
- Observes and intervenes to redirect disruptive and inappropriate behavior
- Directs and maintains student(s) on task

- Part-Time Salary Range of $22,346 (Step
1) - $29,807 (Step
8)
Salary Step based on Public School Paraprofessional experience
Medical and Dental Benefits do not apply to this position
Part-time Paraprofessionals are given consideration for Full-Time vacancies via internal application as they become available
