Overview:

Diakon Solutions is adding multiple positions to assist the Federal Aviation Administration’s Aviation Research Division at the William J. Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace in New Jersey. These are “hands‑on” positions to support a wide range of Research Development Test & Evaluation (RDT&E) for the general aviation sector. Selected candidates will specifically support the FAA’s core research and testing of alternative unleaded fuels for use in piston-engine aircraft;

aircraft and engine modifications to allow safe operation on reduced octane unleaded fuels; and innovative aircraft technologies that safely reduce emissions from fuels.

Duties:

Depending on the specific position this may include but is not limited to: test cell equipment integration; engine/propulsion system and sub‑component test article installation and configuration; test article monitoring and maintenance activities; configuration and maintenance of test cell equipment including altitude simulation systems; fuel system setup and fuel handling; participate in and/or lead test conduct in accordance with approved test plans and practices;

and reduction and analysis of test data, along with supporting technical report preparation. Individuals may be called upon to communicate the overall results of a project or work activity to management, the aviation and aerospace industries and other external parties.

Qualifications:
  • Degree Requirement: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree of Science in either aerospace, or mechanical engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • At least one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or qualified to work for a U.S. government agency.
  • Practical knowledge of how piston engines, mechanical, and/or electrical systems operate.
  • Ability to exercise an independent degree of judgment, ingenuity, and creativity, interpreting and adapting procedures and practices.
  • Ability to easily navigate computer programs and learn new programs and software as necessary.
  • Experience performing laboratory or other testing/research including data acquisition and technical writing experience.
  • Experience utilizing either SOLIDWORKS or MATLAB.
  • Experience post-processing large data sets a plus.
