Systems Administrator / System Management Console Operator (SMCO)
OCH Technologies is seeking a Systems Administrator/System Management Console Operator (SMCO) to support the FAA from the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. The role provides day‑to‑day operational system administration support to administer, monitor, and maintain all related software, hardware, and configurations for large, complex systems.

Core Responsibilities & Duties- Day‑to‑day operational system administration support to administer, monitor, and maintain a large‑scale computer network and related software, hardware, and configurations.
- Provide technical and system administration support through troubleshooting, identifying and isolating issues, conducting root cause analysis, and implementing appropriate solutions to software and system issues.
- Respond to program‑related issues, resolve problems, and manage stakeholder tickets.
- Prepare accurate technical documentation of problems and solutions for system owners.
- Identify and analyze issues that affect system performance, working closely with the development team and recommending solutions.
- Recommend and implement system enhancements to improve performance and reliability, including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.
- Analyze and identify discrepancies in the system, assess risks, and suggest solutions while adhering to security standards.
- Resolve Linux system errors, crashes, and disk space problems.
- Communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, with internal and external customers, in written and oral formats.
- Interact with stakeholders, providing advice and troubleshooting of issues.
- Be available for on‑call support.
- Perform disaster recovery operations and data backups.
- Serve as first‑level support for customers seeking technical assistance; respond to incoming calls and emails regarding service‑related inquiries for TFMS & DSP issues.
Responsibilities may evolve over time to support team and organizational goals but will remain consistent with the overall scope of the role.
RequirementsMinimum Qualifications
Education
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
Experience
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience
- Experience with critical operations in a large‑scale secure environment
- Hands‑on experience with Unix/Linux, including knowledge of related hardware and software
- Experience with Windows, Solaris, and VMWare environments
Candidate must have the ability to hold and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Shift DetailsTraining Period: M‑F approximately 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.
Post‑Training:
Shift work. May be either Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM) or Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), rotating days, 84 total hours every 2 weeks.
- Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server/Workstation Suite and Red Hat Satellite Server Suite
- Knowledge of Unix methods and techniques used in systems administration and support.
- Knowledge of Unix principles, file editing, Unix commands, and file manipulation.
- Knowledge of Linux/Perl scripting, web‑based applications, HP Open View Enterprise, VMware VSphere Enterprise Server Suite, Trip Wire Enterprise Console, Net Apps System Storage Manager.
- Experience providing operations & maintenance support, including supporting helpdesk, providing 24/7 engineering support for system outages or corrective maintenance, supporting technology (hardware/software) refreshes, and understanding backup procedures and storage management.
- Supporting and following configuration management plans and processes, updating documentation, supporting annual authorization processes including independent testing teams.
