Systems Engineer
Position Summary
The Operating Systems Engineer IIIs role is to strategically design and implement in-house information systems and networked software architectures that support core organizational functions and assure their high availability. This individual will gain organizational commitment for all systems and software plans, evaluate and select all technologies required to complete those plans, and provide technical leadership across the organization from strategic decision‑making down to the project planning level.

Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years related experience required. In lieu of a Bachelor’s degree, a high‑school diploma with 15 years of relevant experience is required.
License/Certification: MCSE certification or higher preferred.
Responsibilities- Provide 24/7/365 system support.
- Collaborate with engineering staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems.
- Work with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
- Design and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
- Perform cost–benefit and ROI analyses for proposed systems to aid management in implementation decisions.
- Research software and systems products to justify recommendations and support purchasing efforts.
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsource rs, and contractors to secure system‑related products and services.
- Gauge the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improvement.
- Propose and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to guide system programmers and development teams.
- Design and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
- Integrate servers, including database, e‑mail, print, and backup servers and associated software into enterprise systems.
- Ensure system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
- Create and maintain documentation related to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Ensure compatibility and interoperability of in‑house computing systems.
- Coordinate and perform in‑depth tests, including end‑user reviews, for modified and new systems.
- Monitor and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
- Provide orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
- Develop and maintain backup routines to ensure reliable backups and restores.
- Monitor system security and access, ensuring system integrity.
- Monitor and maintain system storage.
- Perform system performance evaluations and make recommendations for improvements.
- Prepare system availability reports.
- Install operating system and vendor‑specific software updates according to established standards.
- Ensure all production environments are configured for high availability to maximize uptime.
- Investigate and maintain third‑party system tools for monitoring, backup, security, etc.
- Assist in the installation of operating system and vendor‑specific software updates.
- Assist in modifications to system hardware and software.
- Analyze and document system issues and make recommendations as needed.
- Work closely with the Data Security Analyst and Chief Privacy Officer to assure proper creation and maintenance of user accounts.
- Provide technical support, guidance, assistance, and training as required.
- Participate in the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.
- Work with the Database Administrator to ensure database integrity.
- Develop programs and tools to automate scheduling of system‑related operations and reports.
- Use communication and teamwork skills to maintain successful working relationships throughout the organization.
- Listen effectively, build strong relationships, maintain good rapport, and openly share best practices, tools, and expertise.
