Location: Egg Harbor
Duties As an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-10/12, you will:
* Advanced Maintenance:
Performs major, non-routine repairs on critical aircraft systems such as flight controls, landing gear, and canopies. This includes maintenance that is beyond the capability of other, lower-graded maintenance units.
* Specialized Equipment:
Utilizes a wide variety of technical and precision tools like micrometers, dial indicators, torque wrenches, and weight/balance testers to overhaul, rig, and install major airframe components.
* System Knowledge:
Must possess extensive knowledge of various aircraft systems and how they interface to troubleshoot and repair complex issues, often with minimal supervision.
* Procedural Adherence:
Works in accordance with established policies and procedures, referring only the most difficult or unusual problems to a supervisor for guidance.
* Instructional Duties:
May be tasked to instruct, direct, and assign maintenance tasks to drill-status guard members, ensuring work complies with standard procedures. WG-12
* Technical Authority:
Serves as the primary technical expert for an assigned aircraft. They direct, monitor, and approve all maintenance performed, including work done by subordinate mechanics and even depot-level contract teams.
* Total Aircraft Responsibility:
Manages the overall maintenance effort, from diagnosing complex malfunctions to overseeing battle damage assessment and repair. This includes planning and directing the work of specialists in various trades.
* Mission Readiness:
Develops and recommends courses of action to maintain the aircraft at Full Mission Capability (FMC). This involves making critical decisions on a wide range of issues to ensure mission completion, including clearing "Red X" symbols on aircraft forms, which signifies the aircraft is unsafe for flight.
* Advanced Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
Resolves the most complex and critical aircraft issues, often in locations with limited support, to return a disabled aircraft to service.
* Training and Development:
Plans, develops, and conducts on-the-job training for a multi-faceted workforce (3 to 8 assigned military personnel). They are responsible for evaluating and certifying the skill levels of assigned members.
* Coordination and Leadership:
Coordinates directly with production control and oversees all maintenance personnel working on the aircraft, ensuring priorities and timelines are met. They are singularly responsible for the aircraft assigned to them. Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a
* military unit
* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position.
* Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support. (Guidance established by NJ HRO-J1) This is a target grade position where the selected incumbent may start at the WG-10 level. The incumbent will gain valuable experience and will have an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in place to facilitate progression to the target grade of WG-12.
Qualifications General
Experience:
Must have the following experience(s):
* Removing and replacing aircraft parts, accessories, and components
* Making adjustments and settings according to established specifications
* Using hand tools and test equipment Specialized
Experience:
Must have 18 months of the following experience(s):
* Installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting
* Functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification
* Coordinating the work of other mechanics
* Scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow
