Position: Systems Engineer II - ATS (Onsite)

Overview

Systems Engineer II – Air Traffic Solutions (ATS) at Collins Aerospace, an RTX company. The role is based at the FAA’s WilliamJ.Hughes Technical Center for Advanced Aerospace and focuses on the design, development, integration, testing, and sustainment of the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS).

Responsibilities and Scope

Support hardware engineering, software development, technical documentation, on‑site support, deployment, troubleshooting, and software testing for the STARS system.

Work independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and deliver accurate, compliant solutions.

Develop test reports, acceptance documentation, and compliance artifacts to verify requirements.

Support hardware and software development, including documentation, testing, enhancements, deployment, bug fixes, and troubleshooting.

Engage in occasional travel to other locations as required.

Participate in working hours events and occasional evening or surge‑time activities.

What You Will Learn

Gain an in‑depth understanding of how traffic control systems operate and are modernized, master rigorous testing and documentation practices in a government contracting environment, and learn how to contribute to the next generation of airspace automation used by the FAA.

Qualifications – Must Have

Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with a minimum of 2years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.

Experience with Linux environments.

U.S. citizenship required.

Capability to obtain a FAA clearance to access secure information under program/contract requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Air Traffic Control, Airspace/Aircraft Services, Technical Operations, or maintenance/development of Air Traffic Systems.

Layer2 and3 networking knowledge (VLANs, STP, trunking, routing protocols).

Hands‑on experience configuring and maintaining network hardware from vendors such as Extreme, Avaya, Cisco, Juniper, Arista, and Palo Alto.

Programming skills in C, C++, Qt/Visual Studio, Python, or MATLAB.

Experience with Jira, Jenkins, Clear Case, Git, or Bitbucket; cloud, containers, and virtual machines.

Red Hat Linux7 /8/9 and integration/test best‑practice experience.

Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
