DescriptionThe selected candidate will support software development activities for the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Research and Development Human Factors Lab (RDHFL) laboratory at the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Pomona, NJ. Candidates should possess a foundation in software engineering and programming concepts.
- Participate in software development, testing, integration, and troubleshooting activities
- Develop and maintain software applications utilizing a variety of programming languages and technologies
- Support research, prototyping, and simulation activities, including projects utilizing the Godot game engine
- Collaborate with engineers, researchers, and stakeholders to develop innovative solutions supporting FAA research initiatives
Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for a Position of Public Trust. Candidates should be aware that completion of the FAA security onboarding process may require two or more months prior to beginning work.
Work Location RequirementThis role requires full-time onsite support at the William J. Hughes Technical Center (WJHTC) in Pomona, NJ. Remote work is not supported for this position.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities- 0-2 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of computer programming languages and software development principles
- Experience developing software applications using languages such as Python, C++, Java, JavaScript, Tcl, or Bash
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals, including network protocols such as TCP/UDP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, and DNS
- Familiarity with Linux environments
- Experience with the Godot game engine is preferred
- Familiarity with web development technologies such as HTML, CSS, Type Script, Node.js, or similar technologies is preferred
- Familiarity with Git or other version control systems is preferred
- Familiarity with containerization is preferred
- Familiarity with Jenkins is preferred
- Familiarity with data exchange formats, such as JSON, XML, and Protobuf Buffers is preferred
- Experience developing or supporting educational, training, or instructional software/content is preferred
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve software and system issues
- Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment

Salary Range$65,000 - $70,000 Annually
