HVAC Estimator
University Mechanical and Engineering Contractors, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced HVAC Estimator for our Southern California offices.
HVAC estimator is responsible for all phases of the estimating and bidding process including preconstruction services and performing estimate takeoffs. Thorough knowledge of the mechanical construction bidding processes is required. Specific expertise with Plumbing systems serving healthcare (HCAI), hotels, student housing, laboratories, power plants, Cogeneration facilities, manufacturing facilities, clean rooms, cGMP facilities and process systems for Pharmaceutical and microelectronics facilities is desired.
Ability to produce a complete detailed estimate from incomplete design documents is preferred.
Compensation Range: $80,000 to $105,000.
Essential duties and responsibilities include bid document review, pre-bid meetings, client interface, plumbing system sizing and layout from incomplete bid documents, quantity takeoff, material, equipment and subcontractor pricing, spreadsheet input and proposal preparation. Estimates will be prepared using Autobid estimating software. Experience Autobid or other on-screen estimating software is desired. Duties also include on site and/or In-house estimating where candidate will work with professionals in design firms on design-assist and design-build projects to direct the design to meet the budget.
Estimator will also interface with UMEC's construction project teams and CAD detailing staff. Must have knowledge regarding safety, worker's compensation, insurance and bonding, materials as it pertains to bidding requirements. Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications to perform this job successfully include proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, Bluebeam, MS Outlook, and Autobid piping estimating systems. Required attributes include excellent written and verbal communications skills, maintaining a professional manner in actions and appearance when representing UMEC, prioritizing in a fast paced multi-task environment with organization skills, demonstrated ability to perform basic business mathematical functions, working with minimal supervision, effectively managing time and details, interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, organizational skills in handling & archiving technical data, and compliance with all operating policies, procedures, plans, and programs.
Prefer a minimum of 3-5 years mechanical construction experience and proficiency in the preparation of large and complex bid proposals of all types.
This is not a remote position, but you are able to work at either our San Diego or Anaheim office location.
Must have the demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, cooperate, and collaborate with multiple levels of employees, vendors, and suppliers.
