Director of Staff Development (RN/LVN)
Under the direction and supervision of the Administrator and through consultation and cooperation with the Director of Nursing, the Director of Staff Development (RN/LVN) is responsible for planning, implementation, direction, and evaluation of the facility’s educational programs for all employees, as well as quality assurance and improvement.
Qualifications- Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse in the state of practice.
- Minimum of two years experience as a licensed nurse in supervision and providing care in a long‑term care facility.
- Completed a 24‑hour continuing‑education course in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing.
- Good mental and physical health.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Coordinate theoretical and clinical orientation for all new employees.
- Provide documentation supporting orientation to the facility’s policies and procedures for maintenance in individual employee file folders.
- Document all History/Physicals and TB screenings within seven (7) days of employment.
- Review Blood Borne Pathogen Policy and Procedure.
- Coordinate and conduct an effective ongoing in‑service plan for all employees.
- Provide nursing reinforcement and training to meet the annual 24‑hour requirement for all nursing assistants.
- Organize mandatory annual in‑services for all facility employees in accordance with State and Federal regulations and company policy.
- Coordinate yearly calendar and provide schedule to the administrator and all department heads.
- Schedule annual in‑service education for all personnel.
- Maintain all in‑service records on all employees in current, neat, and orderly fashion.
- Attach lesson plan criteria for information presented.
- Maintain individual educational profiles for all nursing assistants to ensure all 24‑hour annual requirements are met.
- Assist the administrator and the director of nursing services in reinforcing all nursing procedures and policies.
- Monitor, support, teach, and supervise the nursing staff on established procedures, both clinical and theoretical, on an ongoing basis, including one‑on‑one teaching techniques as needed.
- Conduct nurse’s aide meetings as necessary.
- Act as Infection Control Coordinator.
- Attend all scheduled company‑provided training and in‑services for director of staff development.
- Meet with personnel as appropriate to assist in identifying and correcting all problem areas and improving services.
- Conduct performance evaluations on all employees three (3) months after employment and annually thereafter.
- Interview and hire nursing assistants.
- Ensure all employee files are current (yearly physical and TB screening, yearly evaluation, CPR card if applicable, license valid and current).
- Act as Safety Coordinator as necessary.
- Present a professional image to consumers through dress, behavior, and speech.
- Adhere to company standards for resolving consumer concerns.
- Ensure that all resident rights are protected.
