Position: MWR Recreation Assistant (Liberty)

Summary

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program. Responsibilities include special events, recreation information, command events, fleet support, community events, trips and tours, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, green space management, bowling, library services, grab‑n‑go, movies, and outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities
  • Provides customer service and support for Community Recreation programs.
  • Checks patron eligibility and ensures authorized use of facilities.
  • Provides information about activities and program offerings.
  • Opens and closes facilities, orders and restocks supplies, and prepares snack bar menu items or pre-packaged retail items.
  • Assists in day-to-day administration of multiple programs, including event after‑action reports and patronage data collection.
  • Provides recreation experiences such as day and weekend trips.
  • Administers workshops, clinics and events in areas such as camping, cycling, sailing, backpacking, canoeing, snow skiing, hiking, and water sports.
  • Conducts inventory, maintains controls, and ensures equipment accountability.
  • Ensures rental and check‑out procedures are followed and notifies supervisors of damage or loss.
  • Checks equipment in and out, collects rental fees, inventories items, and completes inspections upon return.
  • Processes customer Internet registrations and event registrations.
  • Accounts for daily sales transactions and completes a Daily Activity Report (DAR).
  • Collects fees for tickets, retail, rental items, classes, and trips using POS systems.
  • Performs inventory of equipment, retail goods, supplies, and items with cash value.
  • Provides event setup and breakdown support.
  • Initiates and follows up on maintenance trouble calls.
  • Adheres to NAVMED P‑5010 sanitation requirements.
  • Researches and provides information and referrals for recreational opportunities.
  • Assists in creation of proposals, execution of agreements, and follow‑up.
  • Conducts community outreach and develops partnerships with on‑base and off‑base organizations.
  • Promotes use of E‑reading resources through the online MWR Library Program.
  • Promotes MWR facilities and events through outreach opportunities on base.
  • Updates electronic and multimedia support tools as needed.
  • Schedules entertainment and promotion activities.
  • Coordinates marketing and execution of MWR programs and special events.
  • Supports command statements on adherence to EEO principles and policies.
  • Assists with recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff.
  • Performs administrative duties using established computer software programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned that pertain to this position.
Requirements
  • Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements, including successful completion of a background investigation.
  • Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors; administrative work is conducted in a normal office setting.
  • Irregular working hours, including early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required.
  • May have to obtain and maintain one of the following certifications within 90 days of hire:
    Emergency First Responder, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Food Handlers, or C.A.R.E. (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively).
  • Protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • This position is subject to the federal workplace drug‑free policy; illegal drug use will result in penalties up to and including removal from Federal Service.
Qualifications

Combination of experience related to customer service and recreation activity‑based functions.

Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities.

Must be able to work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Knowledge of the goals, principles, techniques, and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities.

Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and the entire scope of Community Recreation activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages, and interests.

Knowledge of the functions, procedures, and operations of recreation activities.

Strong customer service skills.

Ability to maintain records, compile and organize data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics for dissemination to customers.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Knowledge of computers, office procedures, and print production.
