School Psychologist

CUHSD is looking for an enthusiastic and caring School Psychologist to join our team temporarily. We are looking for an individual who will put our student needs first; who will support our students social/emotional well being; will support individual students through various developmental and mental health issues; test and assess students who may qualify for additional services;
School psychologists are uniquely qualified members of school teams that support students' ability to learn and teachers' ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior, to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists partner with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.

Qualified applicants will hold a California PPS:
School Psychology credential. The ideal candidate will have experience with high school aged students, will be familiar with the IEP process and with social emotional learning interventions; will align with our core values of honesty, integrity and respect; and will be bilingual (English/Spanish).

Job Description / Essential Elements:
Print SCHOOL PYSCHOLOGIST BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Provide psychological services to schools including testing, counseling, and consulting to assist them in meeting the educational needs of pupils. Completes psycho-educational evaluations, prepares reports, and presents results to IEP teams. Counsels students as needed. Consults with administrators, counselors, agency personnel, teachers, and parents on student needs and services.

Supervision Received or Exercised:

  • Receives direction from the Special Education Director.
  • Receives direction of the site administrator while performing services at the school sites.
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned certificated and classified staff.
  • Exercises direct supervision over students as necessary.

Examples of

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Administers to pupil intelligence tests, personality tests, tests to measure perceptual and motor development, and other test instruments as required.
  • Evaluates and interprets all testing and makes recommendations for school and class placements for special education, categorical, and general education programs.
  • Identifies students who qualify for special education or 504 services.
  • Interprets tests findings to parents as required; counsels with parents regarding pupil's potential, achievement level, and social-emotional adjustment; recommends to parents ways of helping pupil; and refers parents to appropriate agencies for assistance.
  • Confers with teachers, administrators and other professional staff on individual students and helps in the efforts to better understand and place each pupil.
  • Consults with other agencies regarding individual cases.
  • Makes recommendations on student placement and necessary modifications.
  • Counsels individual pupils regarding test findings; academic problems, social or emotional problems, and general vocational goals upon request of the school administration, parent or student.
  • Assists school personnel in establishing instructional programs for special educational classes.
  • Observes students in class or other settings as needed.
  • Writes assessment plans for students.
  • Participates in development of Behavior Support Plans for students.
  • Conducts conflict resolution activities with students.
  • Assists with crisis management at school sites.
  • Participates on crisis management teams, school/district safety team, Medi Cal Advisory Committee, and other related teams and committees as appropriate.
  • Conducts parent interviews and developmental-medical histories of students.
  • Writes complete report on each pupil tested and files with records.
  • Participates in faculty meetings, parent association meetings, and other community groups as a representative of the Special Education Department upon request.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Credential:
      Pupil Personnel Services with authorization to serve as a School Psychologist.
    • Education:

      Master's Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements.
    • Experience:

      Three years of successful classroom teaching or counseling experience is desirable.
    • Personal Qualities:
      Better than average recommendations from student supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and performance of the teacher. Must possess mature judgment and ability to exercise individual initiative. Must be able to develop empathy with parents and pupils.
    • Bilingualism:
      Oral fluency in Spanish desirable.
