Help Young Children Reach Their Full Potential

Home of Guiding Hands (HGH) is looking for a compassionate Physical Therapist to join our Infant Development Assessments (IDA) team.

This is a unique opportunity for a PT who enjoys working with infants, toddlers, and families and wants the flexibility of a part-time, community-based position.

You’ll conduct developmental assessments for children from birth to age 3 who may have developmental delays or be at risk for an intellectual or developmental disability. You’ll meet with families in their homes and community settings, evaluate each child's development, prepare reports, and help families connect with the early intervention services their child may need.

Rather than providing ongoing traditional physical therapy sessions, this role is focused primarily on developmental evaluation, early identification, family support, and recommendations for services.

What You’ll Do

Conduct Infant and Toddler Developmental Assessments for young children

Meet with families and assessment partners to coordinate appointments

Evaluate a child's developmental abilities and identify developmental performance age ranges

Complete M-CHAT reviews when Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is suspected

Review vision and hearing screening information

Review San Diego Regional Center materials with families during assessments

Prepare detailed reports summarizing each child's developmental competencies

Assist with relevant portions of the child's Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)

Complete required assessment and intake documentation within established timelines

Maintain assessment materials and your IDA assessment kit

Travel throughout San Diego or Imperial County to conduct assessments in family homes and other community locations

What We’re Looking For

Current California Physical Therapist license

Master's degree in Physical Therapy from a CAPTE-approved program

Experience working with young children, particularly infants and toddlers with established or potential intellectual or developmental disabilities

Strong assessment, communication, and documentation skills

Ability to build positive and supportive relationships with children and families

Detail-oriented and comfortable managing your schedule and deadlines independently

Valid California driver's license with a safe driving record

Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance

Ability to obtain required DOJ clearance

CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to complete required training

Why Join Home of Guiding Hands?

At HGH, you'll have the opportunity to use your clinical expertise during an incredibly important stage of a child's development while helping families better understand their child's strengths and needs.

We offer:

  • $50–$60/hour
  • CEU and licensing fee reimbursement
  • Paid sick and vacation time
  • Medical and dental benefits for eligible employees
  • Meaningful, community-based work with children and families throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties

If you're looking for a flexible Physical Therapist opportunity where your expertise can help identify developmental needs early and connect families with valuable resources and services, we'd love to hear from you.
