General Purpose
This is a part‑time position. The schedule may be determined by mutual agreement.
About The PositionUnder the direction of an assigned supervisor, this role involves providing verbal interpretations of questions, testimony, arguments, and other courtroom proceedings for defendants, judges, counsel, jurors, witnesses, and others; as well as sight‑translation of written materials and legal documents in the courtroom.

Special Requirements
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to the requirements set by the State of California for a Certified Court Interpreter is acceptable.
- Valid Court Interpreter Certification from the Judicial Council of California.
- Valid California Class C driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Court’s vehicle insurance policy.
- Correct oral and written usage of English and a designated second language.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Legal procedures and terminology.
- Simultaneous, consecutive, and sight‑translation techniques.
- Translation of street language, including slang, profanity, and colloquialisms.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Knowledge of the Code of ethics and rules of confidentiality applicable to interpreting.
- Interpret verbal court proceedings, including questions, testimony, arguments, and other audible exchanges.
- Provide sight‑translation of written materials such as reports, letters, legal documents, and other items.
- Travel to branch courts to interpret proceedings for non‑English speaking defendants.
- Read, write, translate, and interpret in English and a designated second language.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Stand in court for extended periods of time.
- Provide clear and accurate translations and interpretations of superior court proceedings.
This position is a part‑time, non‑exempt hourly role with biweekly paydays. Medicare is paid at a rate of 1.45% by both the Court and the employee.
Leave Provisions- Sick leave is accrued at a rate of .0500 per hour paid, with a maximum of 80 hours per pay period (4 hours per pay period).
- Vacation time accrual is based on years of service, with a top cap of 240 hours and a gradual increase in accrual rate from 10 days per year to 23 days per year.
- Jury leave is paid at the employee’s regular rate of pay. Mileage or expense reimbursement is available only to the employee.
- Military leave is provided in accordance with the law.
- Bereavement leave is 9 days per rolling 12 months.
- Health insurance at a shared cost; the Court subsidizes a portion of the premium.
- Vision and dental insurance are optional and paid by the employee.
- Basic life insurance of $20,000 paid by the Court; supplemental life and dependent insurance are optional and paid by the employee.
- Long‑term disability insurance available at the employee’s expense.
- Worker’s Compensation paid by the Court.
- State Disability Insurance paid by the employee at 1% up to $101,636 in wages.
- Deferred Compensation (457(b) Plan) available at the employee’s expense.
- Employee Assistance Program paid by the Court.
- Tuition reimbursement up to $1,200 per calendar year subject to pre‑approval and availability of funds.
- Retirement contributions through ICERS; employee and employer contributions are applied per hourly rate and hours worked.
- 14 paid holidays per year, with eligibility dependent on work schedule. Holidays include:
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Lincoln’s Birthday, President’s Day, Cesar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Native American Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday after Thanksgiving, Christmas Day.
Candidates will be reviewed to identify those who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted the required documents. Eligible candidates may be invited to an oral interview, following a drug test, background check, and reference checks.
