Civil Utility Superintendent

Diversified Construction & Design is seeking a Civil Utility Superintendent to join our Civil Division.

• Collaborate with Project Managers, company leadership, and clients to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise self-performed underground utility construction operations from mobilization through completion.
• Lead and support field crews, including managing work schedules, project progress, and resource allocation.
• Lead and manage field crews including foremen, operators, laborers, and pipe layers.
• Coordinate daily production goals to meet schedule, budget, and scope targets.
• Proactively inspect job sites to ensure manpower, equipment, and resources are properly allocated for safe and efficient operations.
• Identify potential construction issues in advance and implement solutions before schedule or cost impacts occur.
• Ensure proper execution of utility construction, including:
  • Water main installation: fittings, valves, hydrants, service connections
  • Storm sewer installation: structures, inlet work, outfalls
  • Sanitary sewer installation: mains, manholes, services, lift station tie-ins (as applicable)
• Coordinate excavation activities including utility locating, dewatering, and trench safety requirements (shoring/benching/sloping).
• Supervise the safe and proper use of machinery, tools, and construction equipment.
• Maintain a working knowledge of construction equipment including safe operating practices and identifying signs of maintenance issues.
• Propose operational adjustments as needed to meet project schedules and budget requirements.
• Ensure materials and equipment are ordered, delivered, and available to support production needs.
• Monitor and manage subcontractors when applicable.
• Coordinate with inspectors, engineers, and client representatives to support inspections/testing and quickly resolve field issues.
• Maintain accurate and timely field documentation including daily reports, manpower and equipment logs, production tracking, and delivery tickets/quantities.
• Ensure work complies with plans/specifications, owner/municipality requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
• Promote our safety culture by enforcing safety procedures, including educating new employees on safety procedures, regulations, and expectations.
• Immediately address unsafe conditions and stop work when necessary.

• Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in all aspects of self-performed utility construction, including water, storm, and sanitary sewer construction.
• Proven experience supervising utility crews and heavy equipment operations.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, profiles, specifications, and construction documents.
• Strong knowledge of trench safety, grading, and underground installation requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and provide a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR); travel to job sites as needed.
