Position: PT00003 Physical Therapy Asst PRN

Assists in managing daily operations of the department. Provides physical therapy treatments to patients from all age groups as developed by the Physical Therapist. Contributes to the development of the department. Works closely with family members to assure achievement of goals and continuity of care. Provides documentation of patient progress. Supervises and assists with evaluating and training PT techs. Assists in continuous quality improvement.

Qualifications/Experience

Education:

Graduate of an APTA accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program. Associate degree minimum.

Experience:

Preferably one year experience as a physical therapist assistant.

Other

Skills:

Desirable characteristics include a proficiency in written and verbal communications, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public.

Licenses/Certificate:
Licensed or eligible for license in Arkansas.

Essential Job Functions

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following Essential Duties satisfactorily. Observe professional ethics in maintaining confidential information acquired regarding personal, financial, medical or employment of patients, families, and employees of SARH.

Must follow and enforce accepted safety practices for patients and SARH.

Must report hazards and initiate appropriate action.

Must participate in safety instructional programs.

Performs all treatment programs based on evaluation and treatment plan by the Physical Therapist.

Possesses basic skills necessary to perform specific physical therapy procedures including but not limited to, musculoskeletal/functional/neurological treatment, gait training/transfers/bed mobility, patient and public education, and use of physical agents.

Consistently monitors treatments and consults with Physical Therapist for changes.

Documents involvement of family and patient in education of treatment program to improve safety, compliance, and understanding of patient/family upon discharge.

Demonstrates the ability to perform directed treatment activities independently.

Completes/maintains documentation in a timely manner according to policy.

Completes billing list daily so that accounts can be billed.

Assists in maintenance and ensures safe operation of department equipment.

Assists with Quality Improvement Plan of the department.

Maintains effective communication department and hospital staff, and patient/family.

Attends hospital meetings, committee meetings as requested by Director.

Notifies designated person of supply needs.

Assists in maintaining a clean environment, ie: clearing booths after treatment, etc.

Completes other duties as assigned.

Works with other departments (OT, Speech, Nursing, etc.) to assure quality of care to patient.

Treats patients in a timely manner and reports to physical therapist any problems.

Performs accurate goniometric measurements of patients joint ROM.

Always seeks guidance when in doubt about a patient, procedure, policy or any other concern.

Treats patients and performs duties according to AR Board of PT Licensure guidelines for PTAs.

Demonstrates good organizational skills.

Assists other staff and director as needed.

Maintains professional skill level as documented by attendance at professional seminars and departmental In-services, as assigned by Director.

Is professional with the Director and is supportive of the work/direction of the department.

Utilizes good body mechanics and uses gait belts in patient treatments.

Acts as liaison at IDT Care Planning meetings and notifies therapist if needed.
