Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Masters degree from an accredited college/university
Two years accredited teaching experience
Current Kansas State Teaching Certificate on file in the Central Office
Health and Inoculation Certificate on file
Desire to continue career improvements

Physical Requirements
Requires prolonged sitting or standing
Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
Requires some travel.
Work Environment
Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
Essential Functions
Helps students attain an optimum level of personal and social adjustment.
Consults with parents, teachers, administrators and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
Ensures that all activities conform to district guidelines.
Communicates effectively with all members of the school district and community.
Works effectively with community organizations.
Reacts to change productively and handles other tasks as assigned.
Supports the value of an education.
Works cooperatively with the other district counselors to develop and implement district curriculum and outcomes.
Supports the philosophy and mission of U.S.D. #490.
General Responsibilities
Provides individual counseling and group guidance to help students cope effectively personal, social, academic, career and family concerns. Consults with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the needs and abilities of students.
Implements a comprehensive appraisal process by:
a. selecting and administering appropriate ability, achievement, and interests tests,
b. visiting with students and interviewing interested adults, and
c. interpreting results to students, teachers, administrators, and parents.
Updates and maintains confidential student records, including cumulative transcripts and student files.
Aides in the identification of students with special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals.
Implements an effective program of educational and career planning.
Schedules opportunities for students to visit with resource persons and recruiters about academic and career choices.
Maintains a current library of career and college information, and assists students in using the information effectively.
Provides information regarding financial aid and scholarships for college and vocational training.
Assists with enrollment to ensure that students complete courses appropriate to their needs and which lead to graduation.
Assists in a continuous program of student orientation.
Assists in making recommendations for school curriculum and instructional practices.
Assists when necessary with the activities of student organizations.
Attends and assists when necessary with school events such as musical programs, athletics, student recognition ceremonies, graduation, and open house.
Sees that district policies are observed during all activities.
Keeps abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
Obtains advance approval of the Principal for all activities and expenditures.
Adheres to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
Other duties as assigned by the principal or other administrative staff.

Salary is commensurate with degree and experience per the Negotiated Agreement. Starting at $48,680/year.
